Scarborough & D.M.C. Yuletide Trial, Low North Park, Harwood Dale. Tuesday.

More than ninety riders did battle with a Dave Chilton and Pat Galway three lap, ten section course at Scarborough club’s Yule Tide trial at Low North Park. It was also a fantastic finale for Scarborough`s Zac Collinson who won Youth A class. Riding the very same sections, his score card put him way ahead of the expert class, ironically won by his father Gary, with old sparring partner Andy Lockwood runner up. Mike Noble continues his winning streak, taking Clubman A award from Richmond`s Stephen Dennis, as Nikita Smith notched another fine third place as she regains confidence. Yarm heating engineer John Bullon, riding his new Vertigo, won a very closely contested Clubman B class, five marks covering the top six places with Colin Bailey, Martin Pratt, Mike Watson, Richard Hildrick all in the chase.

Wetherby D.M.C. Annual John Smith’s Bottle trial, Cockhill Mines, Tuesday.

Adam Milner travelled over from East Yorkshire on Tuesday to Cockhill Mines where he defeated his west Yorkshire rivals to win the John Smiths Trophy from Sam Yeadon and Philip Alderson. Adrian Harrison won the Clubman A class from Bellerby’s Peter Brown and Masham Sausages chief Paul Dennis. Pudsey clubman Mark Chippendale excelled on his brand new Vertigo machine by winning Clubman B from Oakworth’s Darren Holmes. The top youths were Keiran Child, Ryan Brown and Bradley Green. With a cool easterly blowing, but bright and dry, the new look Patrick Darbyshire course tested sixty seven riders. Adrian Harrison took Clubman A while Peter Brown played second fiddle. Bellerby’s team manager was also keeping an eye on number one son Ryan who won Class A youth .Former assistant C of C for the world trial at Bayliss Gap, Jonny Greenwood really got into the action by diving off his pristine Jumbo SWM and doing a breaststroke in the freezing water.

Wetherby & D.M.C. Xmas Charity Trial, Kirkby Malzeard, Thursday.

Toby Martyn rounded off his riding trip to North Yorkshire with another resounding victory at Kirkby Malzeard where he won the annual Xmas Trial at North Close Farm. The Truro Beta teenage rider won a battle of nerves with Dougie Lampkin at the Renee Smith Memorial Trial at Dob Park on Wednesday but the Dave Mawer star studded charity event was another kettle of fish, and a cliff-hanger. With Richard Sadler, Guy Kendrew, James Stones and Tom Affleck all bidding for glory the odds were stacked against the Cornish invader.Phil Alderson just won the 50/50 course from Class B youngster Edward Earle and Richard Fraser who beat Paul Dennis on a tiebreaker.

Norman Shepherd took time out from farming at Fellbeck to win the easy course class where sixty contenders battled for a podium.. The Dave Mawer production weighed in with £7000 to date. The buffet alone swelled Yorkshire Air Ambulance coffers to the tune of £750. The backroom staffs was Gill Robinson, Laura McCarthy, Kirsty Shepherd, and Jessie Jane Bagshaw of the Half Moon Hotel, Acklams Beta for the gazebos, Pat, Norman and Richard Shepherd for the site management, straw bales, salad prepping, food and drink, and child care. And finally for Bee and her kitchen for providing the sustenance on what was a very cool day.

Stanley Trials Club. New Year Trial, Butsfield Quarry, Castleside.

Over one hundred riders turned out for the Stanley Club’s New Year Trial at Butsfield Quarry, just off the A68 in County Durham. For those still sporting hangovers, the trial was marked on the easy side for all levels to give everyone a fighting chance of a win.On the Expert Route, Tom Alderson made his cross country journey worthwhile with a faultless ride, and he needed that as Colin Ward made just the one error, in section six, as did Gary Pears in section three, as they finished second and third on one apiece. Gavin Lowther ruined his clean sheet with three in section three, but this would still be good enough for fourth.Steven Johnson, riding the Clubman Route, matched Alderson’s clean sheet, taking the win in this class ahead of Scorton’s Chris Laws, who would have matched his score but for a mark in section four. Class B youth Elliott Laws, almost stole the show with an impressive fourth place. No clear rides on the Easy Course, but Martin Pratt came closest with four, closely followed by pre-65ers Phil Hodgson and David Metcalfe, who both finished on five. .

Scarborough D.M.C. Open January Trial, Low North Park, Sunday.

The Scarborough club started 2017 as they finished the old year on Sunday, with a ninety rider entry and this included almost thirty youth riders. A ten section, three lap trial plotted by Clerk of Course Sam Fairbank and helpers around Low North Park in very greasy conditions gave the two lone expert visitors, Nathan Parker, from Skipton and Sam Beecroft Penny. Sam Du Vivier kept the consistent Gary Collinson at bay for the Intermediate win and the two four stroke men, Alan Williams and Mike Noble were never more than a mark apart all day. Colin Bailey rode without penalty to beat Steve Kirkwood and his Fantic.
