THE Guisborough and District Motor Club ended a successful 2016 season with their Boxing Day fancy dress trial, with almost 100 riders turning out, supremely fit and finely tuned after a healthy Christmas.

Phil Teasdale scurried around and stuck the flags in for a 10-section, three-lap course around the old shale tips at Slapewath, Charltons, and Tom Affleck topped a strong class of experts, leaving Andy Chilton and Adam Milner in his wake.

Affleck was on fire at the fourth – a steep climb up loose shale, sharp turn round a holly bush and steep descent to exit – with only four lost. The rest were in double figures.

Adam Milner hit the eighth – a steep climb and adverse camber – spot on and was best there on two as Aldis Blacker and Karl Dodderidge saw their score rise dramatically.

Dave Pye blew the cobwebs away with a convincing win in the intermediate class from Stevie Hind, now climbing back up the awards, and visitor Gary Pears, while Phil Perry edged a close-fought battle for clubman A honours to win by one mark from the chasing pair of Alan Carr and Alan Williams. Carr took the runner-up spot on the most cleans rule.

An excellent entry of 15 rode in fancy dress and Mick Orange was judged the winner.

ADAM Milner travelled over from East Yorkshire on Tuesday to Cockhill Mines, where he defeated his West Yorkshire rivals to win the Wetherby and District MC John Smith's Trophy from Sam Yeadon and Philip Alderson.

Adrian Harrison won the clubman A class from Bellerby’s Peter Brown and Masham Sausages chief Paul Dennis.

Pudsey clubman Mark Chippendale excelled on his new Vertigo machine by winning clubman B from Oakworth’s Darren Holmes. The top youths were Keiran Child, Ryan Brown and Bradley Green.

THE Richmond club's trial at Reeth was cancelled at the 11th hour after a check on the Woodyard venue, which was too waterlogged for vehicles to park. The adjoining Arkle Beck was just about level with the low-lying Woodyard pastures.

The Richmond organisers will consider all options at the next committee meeting.
