THERE was no resting on their laurels for the Richmond Motor Club organisers after the Scott Trial activities the previous Saturday when the Hardstyles Trial ran within a mile of the famed Orgate Falls last Sunday morning.

The annual mild clubman and youth trial attracted 91 starters, including 46 youth age group competitors.

Four riders cleaned the 11-section, three-lap course on farmer Gerald Horn's excellent pastures and one of them was class B youth winner Robert Weatherill, demonstrating the strength of the Richmond club's endeavours to train youngsters.

The clean adults were Neil Gaunt, Simon Williamson and Mark Snowball, who shared top spot in the clubman category.

The first group of sections overlooked the Orgate Falls area, while the final four tracked the deep, grassy ravine, with its shallow stream, right up to where Ted Harston plotted his eight very varied small wheels sections.

That course gave the youngsters a total of 24 sections.

NORTHALLERTON and District MC ran their trial at Low Cow Helm Farm, Chop Gate, last Sunday and Adam Milner followed up his first classic car rally victory by winning on the new TRS machine.

Young Callum Williamson, from Scarborough, riding his Sherco, claimed the runner-up berth from Hutton-le-Hole's Tom Wood.

Clerk of course Bill Pye certainly gave the 56 competitors good value for money with four laps of 12 sections around the rocky moorland venue.

Darren Johnson, riding his Montesa, edged the win in a strong clubman A class by three marks from Rob Wilkinson. Tim Marrison was going well until pitching over the bars into a bog on his last lap.

Andy Keel, on a Fantic, took the twin shock win, matching clubman B winner Paul Nelson, who is on a roll at present. Scarborough's East Yorkshire Centre twin shock champion Steve Kirkwood, also Fantic-mounted, kept the pressure on Keel with seven marks lost.

BOLLIHOPE Common, near Stanhope, has always attracted good entries for the Weardale Motor Club and last Sunday was no exception as 112 riders turned out for three laps of 12 sections, with a decent ride round thrown in for good measure.

After an hour of heavy rain at the start, when everyone got a good soaking, the sun came out for the rest of the day and dried out riders and observers alike. All three courses took few marks off the top riders and both John Crinson and Roger Williams remained clean on their respective expert and clubman courses, while veteran Paul Lowther dropped just three to take the easy course win.

LAST Saturday afternoon saw 23 riders, plus another seven on the conducted route, head for Rogerley Quarry for the Stanley Trials Club's trial held above the village of Frosterley.

Scott Aitkin topped the experts on seven, well clear of Gary Pears and Jason Scott, his margin helped predominately by his clean sheet in section 10, where Pears and Scott lost seven and 10 respectively. Gavin Brown was on his own on the green course, while Kian Dawson and David Braithwaite went clean on the clubman course.

Steven Cross took the class on the easy route, closely followed by Tim Brown, both well clear of third-placed Ian Hedley.

All of the winner's marks went in section six, as did Brown's, and Hedley lost 10 of his total here.

STANLEY Trials Club also held their Colin J Ward Memorial Trial at Butsfield last Sunday, when 24 riders did four laps of 10 sections just off the A68 in County Durham.

On the clubman route, Colin Ward took the air-cooled mono win on four, seven fewer than Stephen Larkin, whose problem lay in section 10, where he lost seven while Ward went clean. David Braithwaite rode his Suzuki to victory in the twin shock class ahead of Rob Linklater, after they had dropped 24 and 38 respectively.

Best overall on the easy course was John Charlton aboard his BSA, who went clean. Adrian Gallon lost seven to take the mono class and Brian Ridley finished just one ahead of Gary Daykin in the twin shocks.
