GUY Kendrew continued his winning run with victory at Richmond Motor Club's Sid Morton Memorial Trial at Fremington Edge, high above Reeth, on Good Friday.

Simon Williamson, Nick Hunt and Gavin Lowther laid out the course and the trial was no easy ride for the 104 contestants who battled with a 12-section, three-lap test of skill and strength on the dry limestone sections, many of which form the backdrop for the Scott Trial in October.

Kendrew, a specialist joiner from Faceby, was under pressure from Brompton-on-Swale Sherco rider James Stones, but he lost the trial at the 10th section, losing nine of his 13 penalty total. Only Kendrew got through section six without any penalties, with Stones next best on three marks. Dan Thorpe's 11 penalties relegated the JST Gas Gas national star to third place.

Richmond's Mark Willis also continued his rampage in the inter class, winning by one penalty.

Paul Astwood had a battle on his hands in the green course class, where Gary Thwaite and Paul Dennis were the major threats. Former Superbike ace and team manager Rob McElnea and nine-times TT winner Ian Hutchinson put pressure on Leslie Richardson and Katy Sunter for a top 12 result.

Harrogate stone merchant Neil Gaunt put one over habitual clubman winner Paul Sadler after the latter failed the sixth section on lap one. Dan Storr, who headed Robyn Alderson in fifth place, was having his first trial since the Reeth Three-Day Trial last July.

Top class A youth Tom Needham just managed to head rising starlet Ryan Brown on the youth green course sections. Stephen Cornforth and builder William Wood levelled on penalties in the over-40s class, which went to a tie-breaker in favour of Cornforth.

EBORACUM MC kicked off their club championship series with a well-supported event at Hovingham Quarries in superb weather conditions. Four laps of 10 sections sorted the winners and local ace Olly Kendra topped the experts with only one mark dropped on the eighth section.

It was left to Stewart Wainwright to go one better and win the over-50s with the perfect ride.

Scores were kept to a minimum in the other classes as well, with Matt Sharp grabbing the A class laurels from Will Wainwright. Simon Smith just edged out Shaun Page to take clubman B.

A promising entry in the youth classes was the best for some time, with Zac Collinson, Guy Stones, Richard Pulman and Imogen Laws winning their class.

THE Scarborough club kicked off their series of club trials on Easter Saturday with an excellent turnout of nearly 90 riders at Low North Park. Lone expert entrant Michael Todd, on his Sherco, and JST Gas Gas rider Jack Peace posted best scores on the hard course, as Whitby's Mike Noble topped a strong clubman A class with a convincing ride.

Clerk of course Dave Wilkinson and his assistants set a tough four-lap, 10-section course which proved a real challenge, taking double figure scores off some riders. Quite a few new sections were introduced, utilising fallen trees, and the 10th, where Peter Race observed, saw fantastic attempts by both Todd and Peace. Noble just edged the A class win by two marks.

HURWORTH'S Rob Waite won the well-supported Guisborough and District MC Bob Atkinson Memorial Trial on Easter Sunday at the club's Westerdale venue.

Ces Tate's section four was the decider. Lealholm's Alistair Jackson was unlucky in the newly-adopted twin shock class, losing two fives on this one, as eventual winner Dave Wardell eased his Fantic through for a tidy three.

The Tate brothers, not regular competitors now, still gave a good account of themselves and battled it out for clubman A honours, Kevin edging out Stuart by one mark, with Paul a further five marks back.
