WEST Witton joiner Richard Sadler won the Kath Cockshott Memorial Trial at Silsden on Sunday from Martin Crosswaite, but only by a margin of four penalties after three hard laps and 14 sections.

Crosswaite, occasional trials rider, sensational stunt show performer and pub landlord, seems to be able to ride occasionally and get results. He was right on Sadler’s case up to section nine, when he stopped and incurred a five-mark penalty.

The error gave Sadler a break and the trophy, as well as 20 championship points.

Falcon member Ian Haigh snatched Clubman B ahead of Darley garage owner Ian Myers and Robert Hardisty.

SCARBOROUGH'S James Carr enjoyed a superb return to the trials scene on Sunday to win Hull AC's Sir Arthur Atkinson Cup trial. The course was plotted by Ian Austermuhle and Simon Coulson and 70 riders converged on the Hollins Farm venue at Rosedale.

Carr edged his Scorpa ahead of rivals Billy Bolt and Rob Waite with consistent cleans on the fifth hazard, the only rider to do so.

The day proved almost a Sharp benefit day. Matt Sharp kept it together to beat Brendan Suffell by one mark, with Alan Williams third, in the Clubman A class. Mick Sharp had to give best to the ever-consistent Roger Williams in intermediates and Alick Sharp, Matt's son, won Youth B from Toby Teasdale.
