RICHMOND Motor Club headed into Coverdale on Sunday to stage its 15th event this year, with 82 adults and young riders assembling at Carlton.

The weather was excellent and the tourists were in full attendance. The course was a two-group affair, with five sections on the agenda.

Ted Harston departed with his nine young chargers, all eager to put into practice the knowledge gained at the Cogden Hall training sessions the previous week. Ted conducted his supervision away from the main field.

Mountain climbing Skeeby college student Chloe Richardson won the clubman class from Harry Wills and Paul Pattison. The nearest to Miss Richardson was Paul Weatherill, who got round on just six marks, all lost on the second half of the course.

Student physiologist Ellie Braithwaite and teenager Emily Anderson swelled the class ranks. New class A inter champion Niamh Richardson won the class division from Beth Watling.

In the twin shock class, Nick Hammerton won on his Honda, while Nigel Land dazzled the opposition with his pristine TLR 250.

Significantly, Cogden Hall pupils Oliver Rouse, William Handley and Bradley Green all won their classes on the main course, as did Monte Andrew, Ben Simpson, Cameron Brunskill and George Thwaite in the small wheels classes.

THE Scarborough club stages their annual two-day youth trial over the weekend at Low North Park, bringing the entry to more than 100 competitors.

Glorious weather prevailed and Stafford’s Sam Yeomans topped the adult hard course with a fantastic ride to beat Bradford’s Richard Mellon and Scarborough's Gary Collinson.

Rising stars Jack Biggins and Keiran Child dominated the youth A and B classes, while Jack's younger brother Adam cleaned up in youth C.

Traditionally, Saturday is an easier day, but only Charlie Bawden remained clean to lead his class overnight. Jack Biggins hit trouble on section four, with seven lost, and Child's only loss came with a solitary mark on the very last hazard. Joe Faunthorpe dropped off the pace with five lost on the fourth.

The Hemingway lads were giving it a right old go in class D, George leading Harry by just one mark as Myles Hutchinson hung onto third.

After a good night's rest, Biggins extended his lead with solid rides on two and four. Child and the impressive Faunthorpe were riding superbly, while Riley Wilford, Lucy Fairbank and Mathew Horne led the next generation of Oset contenders.

DESPITE a warm, sunny evening in Nidderdale on Saturday, the fifth trial in the Wetherby and District Motor Club's Norman Crooks Trophy series only appealed to 38 competitors and only four youths tackled the Clockensyke course at Dacre, where almost dry grassland featured ten sections laid out by Ian Myers.

Local ace Rob Bratley took the 50/50 from Phillip Hammond after the Sherco pilot dropped four marks in the third section. Ian Brogden took the easy class from on-form Clive Armistead and Steve Bradley. The youth winners were Ryan Brown and Callum Brown.

Wetherby will stage the seventh Crooks Trophy Trial at Grimwith Reservoir on September 5, starting at 4.30pm. The Blades Trophy Trial will run on Sunday at Bayliss Gap Farm, where the entry is a maximum 80 competitors.
