The ever-growing popularity and the staunch support of the Twin Shock and Pre 65 clan proved yet again they like more of a challenge in life than rolling eggs down hillsides as 70 odd riders converged on Timberholme Farm, Bilsdale for a three lap, five mile romp around this spectacular dale for Northallerton club’s Traditional Trial on Monday.

North-East Centre rider Colin Ward remained with unpenalised on this rocky four-lap course set out Bill Pye to win the Air Cooled Mono class from Kirkbymoorside`s Mark Harrison. Top spot in Pre 65 classes - hard and easy course - were taken by the Ariel duo of Colin Bailey and Duncan McDonald, who did well on single figure scores.

Heading the Twin Shock class the little family of Fantic`s were untouchable, Northallerton man Andy Keel winning the class, his only five on the eighth. Mick Orange rode an inspired clean second lap to stay within touching distance, but the long rocky river section of the fifth dropped him and Ozzie Byers down to the minor placings with five and seven lost here, as Keel mastered it every lap

Great Ayton`s Phil Mayfield appears to have regained his appetite for the trials game again - fortunately - before the Scottish Six Days Trial. After a lengthy lay off he won Middlesbrough trial at Carlton Bank on Saturday night.

A three lap, ten-section course held along and up the viciously steep valley sides of this venue, Mayfield headed the 70 entries by eight marks from Hutton le Hole`s Tom Wood.

Mark Shearer dominated Clubman A, never dropping a mark on the gully sections of three, four and five, only Paul Sedman matching him on the fifth. Andrew Gibson went for 11 here to drop him off the pace to runner-up berth with the ever-improving James Thompson third. Old bikes were well to the fore in Clubman B as Mike Watson beat brother Seamus on his newly-acquired 250 BSA. Colin Bailey`s chances vanished after the Ariel`s back wheel kicked out on the rocky gully of the ninth.

At the Thirsk DMC Trial, held at Long Plain Farm, Hambleton on Sunday Yarm’s Henry Suddes and his son Stephen, an occasional rider nowadays – just failed to grab the Premier by three marks from Shane Monkman.

So Dad Henry showed him how to wrap up victory by winning convincingly in Clubman B class. Desperately unlucky weatherwise, heavy rain turned the four-lap, ten section course around this steep sided scrubland valley into a high scoring event for the 50 riders and Monkman dug in well to earn the win, but only after Suddes Jr, rusty after a lengthy lay off, stalled on the second section first lap when looking on for a certain clean.

Mark Shearer, also from Yarm edged Clubman A win from Richmond`s Paul Dennis as Middlesbrough`s Alan Williams dropped off the pace with a poor ride – by his standards – on the relatively easy second section.

All proceeds from this event were in aid of Ben Campbell, a 36-year-old athlete from Thirsk who died recently of pneumococcal pneumonia.

Thirty nine riders turned out for the Tynemouth Club's trial held at Bowershield in Northumberland on Easter Sunday. Fair play to the club members for setting out the first trial on their own, but it did turn out a bit ambitious especially for the Clubman and Easy riders, with more than the usual number of retirements.

Scott Fenton finished top of the Expert runners on 48, putting him well clear of the opposition, headed by G. Michael and Andrew Battensby.

Just a mile away from the previous day's event, the Bedlington Club put a trial on at The Mill near Elsdon in Northumberland on Easter Monday where riders and observers enjoyed some sunshine for a change.

Garry Bloodworth took the win on a tricky Easy Course, with a score of 23, three less than Roddy Baker, who finished one fewer than Josh Fenton. Dave Humble lost five, enough to beat the challenge of Darren Palmer on the Clubman Course

The 2015 Acklams Summer Championship series of trials got underway at Hutton Conyers on Saturday afternoon but the title Summer was a misnomer. The wind that blasted across the Richardson acres was more Siberia than summer.

The former Home Farm scrambles venue attracted 128 competitors.

The mounting numbers had event secretary Judith Blythe and her right-hand lady June Atkinson working overtime. Keith Blythe and his elves plotted ten sections on a shortish four-lap format. The next Acklam is at Fir Tree Farm, Grewthorpe on April 25th.

Former British championship and international world contender Michael Brown turned the tables on West Witton joiner Richard Sadler on Sunday at the sixth round of the S3 Part national championship trial at Dob Park.

Sadler won the Jack Wood trial two weeks ago with Brown in second place. In almost torrential rain and gale force winds, 95 competitors assembled at Dob Park to ride a testing two-lap course in the Wharfedale and Nidderdale areas.

Sadler, James Fry and Ian Austermuhle, Luke Walker and Dan Thorpe could not get on terms with Brown. World female champion Emma Bristow damaged her MRS Sherco machine near Menwith Hill and retired. Katy Sunter injured a knee and also dropped out. Rochdale’s Julian Ingham won the non-championship class from Liversedge former road racer Scott Stephenson and Barnsley’s Shaun Hoyle.
