MICHAEL BROWN hung on for a close-fought win over Richmond's Richard Sadler in Middlesbrough DMC's Cleveland trial on Sunday to make it two in a row, and three overall.

Youth triumphed in the Inter class as young Ollie Kendra grabbed the win from Matt Maynard with Dave Pye and Mark Sunter picking up the minor placings and Paul Dennis edged the Clubman win by just two marks from Glen Scholey and Chris Alford.

Clerk of course Paul Wright and his assistants laid out a 30-mile 36-section course around the moorlands. A cold, bright morning meant riders got a moving. Kendra led the Inters at halfway stage from Carlton's Matt Maynard, but lost three at the difficult Birks Wood. Maynard fived here, but Ian Hopley recalled his halcyon days to nail the only clean of the day.

It was proving tight in Clubman as Ripon's Glen Scholey, aboard a Honda, led on five from Navenby’s Chris Alford and Ripon’s Paul Dennis. On the second card Brown was unpenalised. Sadler never eased off and stuck with him dropping just two more marks. but Gary McDonald hung on to third place.

EAST MORTEN landlord Martin Crosswaite won the Basic Memorial Trial at cold a breezy Blubberhouses on Sunday to take his championship points tally. The Montesa rider missed Stocksbridge andYarnbury and that allowed Rawdon’s Sam Beecroft –Penny to climb the title chaser on a cool 41-point championship points. Skelding youth Sam Johnson was back in serious action after his elbow operation last month and sailed away from Bradford’s Keiran Child. The next event in the championship list is the Jack Leslie Ellis Trial at Winksley on April 5.

EMMA BRISTOW won the first event in the Ladies and Girls Trials Championship at Aston Tirroid on Sunday from Becky Cook and Donna Fox. Skeeby’s Chloe Richardson was placed fifth. Hurworth girl Beth Waite won the Ladies Inter class from Silsden;s Gabby Whitham. Gargraves’s Francesca Tattersall and Gisburn’s Victoria Peel were seventh and eighth. Niamh Richardson the Girls Inter class. Imogen Laws, Poppy Fletcher and Amy Turpin all scored well in the non-championship class.

THE Tweed Valley Club had a tremendous entry for their recent trial at Doddington with 45 riders making the start including a number crossing the border from Scotland to take part, on a course which was extremely dry despite the odd light shower on a windy but sunny day.

While PC Trucks Ossa men Billy Bolt and Michael Phillipson would both suffer with a five each and with John Battensby having a slack mark, it was left to another Ossa mounted teamster, Dale Robson, to take the honours with just a single mark.Paul Battensby doesn't turn out much, but when he does he certainly mixes it with the best of the Clubman runners and after a day long battle with Eddie Aitkin, he came out on top after both had finished on five. Only one rider held his nerve throughout the event, when on the Easy route, Bantam mounted Eric McMeekin took the win ahead of a number of runners on one mark dropped, headed by Scott Mayhew, and John Grey, both aboard their twinshocks.

CHLOE RICHARDSON’S preparation for charity mountain climbing commences on March 28 when the Skeeby sports and science student heads for Swale Farm at Grinton with Nick Hunt to organise a Save the Children Charity Trial.

Both will plot a three lap 12-section course on the banks of the River Swale east of Reeth. The classes planned will be clubman, beginners and youths. Entry fees will £12 and £10 on the main course and £8.00 on the Small Wheels course. That category will as ever be controlled by Ted Harston. Chloe and Nick have stressed that this will be a fun trial. The starting time will be 1.00 pm. All proceeds will be donated to the chosen charity. The Richmond Motor Club will underwrite organisational costs. Any donations, however small, or large, will be gratefully accepted.

Chloe takes part in a Save the Children Charity fundraising climb of the 5885 metre climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on June 27. The climb will take place through three days. Her training regime includes the A.C.U. British Ladies and Girls Trials Championship, The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme and the Three Peaks climbs.

Durham University Sports Science degree student Chloe said: “I know the climb will tough. I expect at that altitude the oxygen will be rare and it won’t be easy but I will give it my best efforts”
