HEALAUGH trial rider Katy Sunter hit the top spot last Sunday when she won the clubman class at the second round of the national S3 Parts Championship trial at Shipston on Stour.

The old established Colmore Cup Trial is renowned as a severe test for riders and machines with predominantly muddy sections.

It was a double success when her fiancée Dan Thorpe took fifth place behind outright winner Ross Danby. The top S3 Parts rider was Ricky Wiggins ahead of Chris Pearson.

IT proved a victory for youth over experience on Sunday at Thirsk club’s Long Plain Farm, Hambleton trial as Wallsend teenager Billy Bolt put a fantastic ride together to beat the Beta pair of Ian Austermuhle and Faceby's Guy Kendrew.

Rain made early conditions slippery, but it did dry quickly during the event and Bolt made it appear easy, which it wasn't and rode the four lap, nine section course for just two marks, both lost on the wickedly angled rock step exit of section eight. Austermuhle stayed in touch until five marks went astray on section seven and Kendrew dropped to third when hitting trouble with eight and five lost on the last two hazards.

Hartlepool's Simon Winfield was in with a shout in the Intermediate class until a maximum on the eighth dropped him to third. Middlesbrough's Alan Williams, in fine form at present, fared better in Clubman A class taking the win from Yarm's Mark Shearer by eight marks due to a loss of just four marks on the dreaded eighth. This was only matched by Redcar's Chris Jewell.

THERE was another trip to a cold and windy Butsfield for the Stanley Club trial on Sunday when 50 competitors were treated to four laps of ten sections. Stephen Turnbull only had one real problem section on the Easy Course, that being number six, where he had three of his total of four penalties which gave him the victory ahead of Mark Dorritt on five and Gary Daykin on seven, with Garry Bloodworth a further mark behind.

Richard Hawes reverted to his Sherco after some time on his T.Y. Yamaha twin shock machine and promptly took the Clubman win on three, one less than Travis Ward, himself with one to spare over David Humble, who ended up with five against his name. On the Expert Route Dale Robson had plenty to spare over Colin Ward after seven single dabs to his name. Ward lost out after losing eight on the second section while the winner parted with a mere one.

John Battensby came home in third on 21.
