WITH the 2014 European Trials Championship safely tucked away and superb exam results achieved Kirkbymoorside's 16-year-old Dan Peace won the Hull Auto Club's Velocette trial on Sunday riding his 300cc Gas Gas machine.

The Jim Austermuhle inspired course around the popular Wether Hill farm, Farndale venue provided a challenge and Barrie Darrell had the worst possible start by failing the first. This kicked the Thornton le Dale man into gear, remaining the only rider unpenalised on the tenth section to gain the Clubman A win from Egton Bridge rider Colin Bailey by seven marks. The rocky outcrop of two and three, observed by Moira and Pete Simpson, saw penalties dropped.

Marton's Dave Pye third in expert class produced a solid ride here with one lost. Only Peace remained clean. Bailey and Stevie Suddes from Yarm – out on a Fantic, but still retaining the style of his younger days – cleaned. The experienced Pye produced best ride of the day here with one dropped first lap.

A sting in the tail awaited on the huge rocks of ten where Jayne Peace observed, but outstanding clean rides from Clubman B winner, Guisborough's Andy Waugh with an unpenalized ride of the entire course and runner up Steve Cornforth, Paul Pulman and Mark Jewell all remaining clean on this one.

THE Ripon club stage the seventh and final event in the Acklams Motorcycles summer championship series of trials at the splendid Haverah Park venue near Harrogate on Sunday.

It was a fitting testimonial to another successful championship when 130 competitors entered the trial. As usual the small wheelers had their trial before the main event. The girls and boys rode a longish five section course and that alone let the youngsters of the leash and got the parents running what was almost a half mile lap.

Some sections were also used on the adult course so the format was rocks and turns, narrow climbing grass gullies and spot of water sport in the shallow and slippery stream at the foot of the lake. Elliot Laws and William Handley were close until the latter fived the third section on lap one.

Conrad Andrew was too sharp for blonde Scorton girl Imogen Laws on the easy course while Alex Horne ran away with Class E. There was drama before the main event when course planner Mark Langstaff kicked his Beta into life, and also hit the gear pedal and found bottom gear. The machine, with owner hanging on, vertically pirouetted between two Transit vans and missed both, and came down facing roughly the right way with Mark still hold of the bars.

Not so lucky was son James whose Montesa 4RT bit him badly. James now has a loose tooth, a battered face and plenty of bruises. One hundred and sixteen championship contenders hit the main then section for lap trial at 4pm. That course took in the extremes of the dense south wood.

Sara Laws took the first section near the entrance where an array of boulders grabbed marks from all but Montesa 4rt mounted Tony Calvert andChris Dale. Next best were Michael Platts on one and Norman Shepherd and Jamie Rew were next up on two marks. Harold Wilson was deep woods at the sixth while former British Championship Rob Shepherd was just about in the next county at the eighth section.

DALE ROBSON continued his latest comeback with a resounding win in the Castleside Club's trial at Parsons Byers near Frosterley in County Durham on Sunday, with almost 40 riders taking part. Robson's total of 28, put him well ahead of Carl Shaw and Bobby Clark, and almost half of the winner's total went on section six, where Shaw recorded the only clean of the day on his second lap.

Another making a return was James Harland, who went on to take the Clubman win on 7, two less than Eddie Aitkin.

Harland's only problem was in section two, where he suffered a second lap five, but Aitkin was unable to capitalise on this error as he parted with five marks of his own in sections eight and nine.Three single dabs was all that Ossy Byers parted with on his way to victory on the Easy Course, leaving Gary Daykin to ponder over a five and a three in sections three and eight which pushed into second place ahead of Andrew Walker and Stewart Hodgson.
