MOTORSPORT may be a predominantly male-orientated sport, but two North Yorkshire sisters have set their sights on success after securing a new sponsorship deal.

Paige and Drew Bellerby, from Northallerton, are regular competitors in the Shannon Group MSA British Rallycross Championship and have recently secured backing from lubricants company Fuchs Titan Race in addition to their existing sponsors Sayers Road Tankers to bolster their bids for success.

Eighteen-year-old Paige is a former junior champion and went on to race in the Suzuki Swift series with podium places at both Lydden and Pembrey, but following a year out while a new car was being built, the marketing assistant plans to return at Pembrey later this month at the wheel of a Lotus Exige in the Super- National class.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Drew has just finished her GCSE exams before embarking on a career in childcare and education at college, but having only competed for the first time last year, she leads this year’s Junior Championship in her Suzuki Swift following a win at Knockhill and second place at Lydden.

The plan for the rest of this season is for Drew to hopefully win the junior championship while Paige will gain valuable experience in racing against some of the fastest drivers and cars in the country with a view to a full on assault on the SuperNational Championship for 2015.

“I’m really looking forward to racing again as it’s been a while and I’ve missed it,” Paige said.

“The rear-wheel drive Lotus will be something totally different to what I’ve driven before but I’m sure I’ll be okay once I get a bit of time behind the wheel.

“To have Fuchs Titan Race come on board and support us is fantastic and along with our existing sponsor Sayers Road Tankers, hopefully we can achieve some good results.”

Drew said: “Hopefully I can continue the good start to this season and end up winning the junior title as Paige did back in 2010.

“I’m really enjoying driving and despite my lack of experience compared to some other drivers, it’s not been an issue.

“We are very grateful for the backing of Fuchs Titan Race and Sayers Road Tankers, hopefully we can progress higher up the ladder and achieve lots more success in the years ahead.”

Paige and Drew both help with the preparation of their respective cars, and also help source the finances to compete, but the inspiration behind the pair’s involvement in the sport is their five times British Rallycross champion father, Dave Bellerby, who has put his own career on hold to help them.

The next round of the Shannon Group MSA British Rallycross Championship takes place at Pembrey near Llanelli in South Wales on Sunday, July 27.

Riding in the Enduro21.

com under-19 youth class, there was near perfect track conditions for the first time in the series.

The lap was a short course which rode around eight minutes per lap of mostly woodland with no extreme sections. Robbie was keen to consolidate on his last outing result of third and hopefully improve.

Wallace set off in the first race at a competitive pace setting a string of top three times on the first four timed laps although he dropped the bike on a couple of tests.

As the weather warmed up, so did the pace of all the riders enjoying the sunny conditions meaning the organisers decided to take advantage of this and extended the competitive tests to nine runs.

Wallace kept his times consistent and finished the day a solid third, although he was 90 seconds behind the second placed rider.

On Sunday, Wallace was keen to improve his performance to hopefully take second place and after adjusting the suspension settings to a softer set-up the bike felt better, but the lap times remained similar to Saturday.

On test two he trapped his foot between a root and the footrest causing a painful injury to his heel needing an ice pack after the test.

Battling onto the next test he lost control on a fast section in the woods and crashed into a tree injuring his shoulder in the process.

He collected himself and rode on to finish the lap where his pit crew suggested a less aggressive approach which would see him to the finish.

Although his lap times dropped off, Robbie managed to finish the day a credible third place taking another podium and maintaining second place in the championship albeit by a reduced margin.

The next outing for Robbie is rounds nine and ten of the championship at the end of July at Frome in Somerset.
