RICHMOND Motor Club’s Hardstiles Easy Clubman and Youth Trial at Marske was held on a rain-soaked course consisting of four laps of ten sections on Sunday.

A total of 115 riders were on the main trial and six entries on the conducted course.

Section one was an easy opener observed by Steve Lambert. Steve only managed to nab a one and three from Chris Marshall and Eddie Bull.

Then it was straight into section two, a test up a rocky gully which had a torrent of running water coming down, this was previously dry the day before, this and section three back in the same gully further up took marks.

Clubman winner Paul Sadler can be discounted because along with Over 40s winner Tim McParland, he rode a clean trial, no penalties at all. Mark Simpson was on Paul but a dab at the top of the second section took out his hopes. Tim Willis dropped eight of his nine score in the second section where only Philip Hodgson, Mark Jewell and Mick Grant cleaned.

There were exceptional rides in the twinshock class.

Section six was a run up Hag Gill Beck, observed by Jenny Hodgson, and always tricky, but had a different entry for the easy course avoiding a rock step then joining before exiting the beck. On to section seven, which snaked up a grassy gully, this soon turned slippery and took marks for those with less throttle control.

Some got their foot pegs wedged while going through a tight gap in a tree on Emily Anderson’s section nine.

A separate conducted course was held with Gary Clement standing in for Ted Harston. This featured eight sections ridden four times. A special mention must be made for the poor observers endured a cold windy wet day who were – in section order – Steve Lambert, Ken Wallis, Chris Jewel, Nigel Cummins.

Fran Tattershall, Jenny Hodgeson, Richard Coates, Paul Robinson, Emily Anderson and Rachael Watling.

NORTHALLERTON and District Motor Club’s Open Trial scheduled to take place at Chopgate last Sunday was a casualty of the wet weather.

The organisers had no alternative but to cancel the event at short notice.

RICHARD SADLER heads the entry list for the Northern Experts Trial at Wildboarclough, Derbyshire tomorrow.

The West Witton MRS Sherco rider was second last year to British champion Michael Brown. Richard was just one penalty away from victory.
