BETA UK rider Andy Chilton won Eboracum Motor Club’s Colonial Trial on Sunday at Hill Houses, Farndale – but only after a terrific battle with Adam Milner riding an Acklam Beta. Chilton’s only loss came on the big duel step of seven.

However, it was talented Youth A rider Dan Peace, from Kirkbymoorside, who stole the glory. First time out on a new Gas Gas, he made a dream debut, mastering every one of the 20 sections each lap to remain unpenalised.

Rob Carter held the edge over Mark Harrison to win the Intermediate class, five lost on the 14th ended Harrison’s chance of the win and Shane Monkman, with another good ride grabbed third place on most unpenalised rides.

Alan Carr came out top in Clubman A, but he almost lost it on the long gully with a loss of seven.

Yarm’s Darren Johnson gave his old TY Yamaha an airing to win Clubman B from Rob Linklater. Lochaber’s Gary McClennan gave a good account of himself on Mike Kendra’s Fantic before splashing out hard-earned cash for the bike he intends riding in next year’s Scottish Pre 65 trial.

BOLLIHOPE Common, near Frosterley, County Durham was the venue for Weardale and DMC’s trial on Sunday, when 75 riders tackled ten sections in weather ranging from warm sunshine to heavy rain.

The Expert route was won by Kirk Vitty, making a rare outing, but on 22 marks he was well clear of runner-up Carl Shaw, who was followed home by Ian Stephen. Sections six and seven were two of the mark takers where a series of steps took marks all day.

Stephen Bennett won the Clubman coursewith a miserly three marks lost, a very good ride as it wasn’t that easy, as demonstrated by Kevin Chapman who came in second on 11. Colin Gelston completed the top three on 23.

The Easy course wasn’t too bad and two riders, Kevin Edmundson and Paul Lowther, both riding older machinery, had to be separated by the furthest clean rule after they had both finished on one penalty, with Stephen Johnson just behind on three marks.
