THE big guns on the British youth scene fired in earnest at Swaledale where Richmond Motor Club staged the Mintex Trophy Trial with Jack Price emerging as the fastest rider on the two-lap course, of which a fair amount was pure Scott Trial.

Price set the fastest time with a clean first lap. His second lap cost the Denby Dale rider six marks but one of the sharp eyed observers at one of the 30 sections thought otherwise. The total distance for the 56 riders was 22 miles but to some of the survivors it probably felt like a full Scott Trial. Arkengarthdale Sherco rider James Stones had a good day, posting a dozen on observation and ten on time which earned him third overall, ahead of Billy Bolt.

BETA rider Ian Austermuhle added Eboracum MC’s Les Satchwell Trophy to his range of silverware on Sunday, eventually holding off a strong challenge from the youthful duo of Adam Milner and Ollie Kendra. Held on part of the old Colonial land at Hobb House Farm, near Rosedale Chimney Bank, the Freak Hill Climb of the Twenties drew crowds of thousands in its heyday
