CATTERICK Garrison Football Centre were crowned league champions for the first time in their history last Wednesday despite not being in action.

Colburn Town, the only side who could have caught them, had to beat 2014 champions Hawes United to have any chance of pipping Catterick to the title but they slipped to a 3-2 defeat.

Midway through the first half, Tom Sweeney gave Colburn the lead but Andrew Fagg scored either side of the break to put Hawes in front. Stu Murray's equaliser twelve minutes from time gave Colburn hope but in stoppage time Jonathon Champion gave Hawes the points and Catterick the title.

The final league match of the season last Saturday saw Colburn conclude their campaign with an 8-2 victory over Dales Cup finalists Unicorn FC. Luke Hamilton fired Colburn into an early lead but after Shaun Charlton had equalised for Unicorn with his 31st goal of the season, two goals in two minutes just before the break from Nige Cole and Stu Murray changed the whole complexion of the match.

With one eye on Saturday's cup final, Unicorn fell apart in the second half as Murray and Sweeney both scored again to take their tally for the season to a combined total of 93, while Jamie Dempster and substitutes Brandon Bishop and Craig Teasdale completed the scoring. Dan Morris scored a late consolation for Unicorn, who finish third.

The final of the Dales Cup between Unicorn FC and Reeth is at Ferrand Park, Harmby on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 2pm.
