THE DIVISION ONE title race has really opened up after last Sunday saw leaders Robert Thompsons held to a goalless draw at Broughton Hibs.

In a match of very few chances, Thompsons were unable to make the breakthrough and were forced to settle for just a single point.

Northallerton Police took full advantage with a 3-0 win at Travaux FC to cut the gap at the top to 11 points with four games in hand. Johnny Morris fired the Police into an early lead while in the second half, David Cooke, with a header from a Kalumn Holbrook cross, and Nathan Hemingbrough, after a clever one-two with Sam Vernalls, sealed the points.

Elsewhere, Sportsmans FC beat Stokesley SC, 4-0.

Brompton Juniors saw their lead at the top of Division Two cut to seven points after they were held to a 3-3 draw at struggling West Tanfield. Niki Westbury gave Tanfield an early lead but just before the break, Eddie Codd equalised for Brompton.

In the second half, Tom Simpson put Brompton ahead but on the hour, Westbury's second brought Tanfield level. Brompton looked to have picked up all three points when Codd scored his second but in the closing stages, Westbury was brought down in the penalty area and he fired home from the spot to complete his hat-trick and give his side a share of the spoils.

Stokesley Wanderers cut the gap at the top with a 4-0 home success against Cowtons. The match remained goalless for more than an hour until Kieran Watson finished off a James Yeend cross. Yeend then scored the second himself before in the closing stages, Watson scored twice more to complete his hat-trick.

Gt. Ayton Sheriffs are third after beating Fleece Inn, 4-1. Ash Woodier and Joe Marsey gave the Sheriffs a 2-0 half time advantage, although early in the second half, David Smith halved the Fleece arrears.

But in the final ten minutes, Woodier and Stephen Pennock sealed the points.

Topcliffe eased their relegation worries with a 2-0 home victory over bottom side Osmotherley Rangers. Both goals arrived at the start of the second half through Sean MacLachlan and Michael Cobb.

Thirsk Town are through to the final of the Division Three Scorpion Cup after they came from behind to win 3-1 at Romanby 2014.

Paul Fyfe fired the hosts into a 12th minute lead but second half goals from Ritchie Cartman, Michael Lax and Dan George sent Thirsk into the final, where they will meet the winners of this weekend's tie between Standard FC and Knayton.

Division Three leaders Knayton concluded their league fixtures with a 5-1 home victory over Masham. A Martin Kendall free kick gave the hosts a 35th minute lead which Chris Cowton doubled before the break.

In the second half, Sam Rayner, Matt Fishburn and John Martin made it 5-0 before Olly Anderson grabbed a Masham consolation. Knayton will be crowned champions unless Thirsk Town win all four of their remaining league fixtures.

Workies cannot now win the league despite beating Standard FC, 2-1. A Shaun Charlton header gave Workies a narrow half time advantage but with twenty minutes remaining, Phil Sharpe equalised. However, Workies would not be denied all three points as in the 82nd minute Shaun Armstrong grabbed the winner from a Mike Beales through ball.

County Arms and Oddfellows Arms shared six goals at the Hambleton Leisure Centre. Andrew Osgood, Chris Foster and Steve Taggart were on target for County, while Liam Frost, Serhat Ozkanli and Jack Heads replied for Oddfellows, who remain second-bottom.

Streetlam Farmers concluded their fixtures with a 1-1 draw at Jolly Minister, their ninth draw of the season. Ryan Wilbor gave the Ministermen a 60th minute lead following good work from Martin McPhee, but Paul Tallentine headed home a flick from Jamie Callaghan and the Farmers shared the spoils again.
