LAST SATURDAY saw the first round of the Dales Cup but only three of the five scheduled ties beat the weather.

Last season's beaten finalists Richmond Buck Inn were sent crashing out at the first hurdle this time as Reeth left Kneeton Park with a 6-1 victory. The tie was over before the break as goals from Karl Longden, Jonathan Simpson, Joe Woodall and Steve Allison put the visitors in control.

After the break, Longden and Steven Fleming then sealed Reeth's progress before the Buck grabbed a consolation.

Unicorn FC are also through to the quarter finals after beating Carperby Rovers, 5-1. Ryan Crowther fired the Unicorn ahead but it was all square at the break thanks to an equaliser from Rovers' Paul Stephenson.

Unicorn had a great chance to regain the lead soon after the restart but Tom Keegan saw his weak penalty saved by Rovers' goalkeeper Thomas Musgrove. However, Keegan made amends with a fine strike from 25 yards before Gav Armstrong quickly made it 3-1. In the closing stages, Shaun Charlton and substitute Ryan England then sealed Unicorn's place in the last eight.

Richmond Town Academy thrashed Catterick Rovers, 8-0. After a tight opening half an hour, the Academy took control with three goals in twelve minutes from Stuart Pigg, Sam Pickersgill and Ryan Howe.

In the second half, Pickersgill went on to complete a hat-trick while Daniel Mackenzie, Pigg and Joe Dingwall completed the scoring.

The ties between Catterick Garrison Football Centre and Hawes United, plus Colburn Town v Richmond Mavericks Reserves, were both postponed, as was Bedale Town Reserves' league trip to Spennithorne and Harmby.
