NORTHALLERTON POLICE made it through to the last eight of the North Riding County Cup last Sunday with an impressive 8-1 victory over South Banks FC. The Police were 3-0 up inside the opening fifteen minutes with a goal from Ben Darville and a brace from Dan Baxter. Early in the second period, Leon Carling pulled one back for South Bank, but Chris Walker, Kalumn Holbrook and Darville sealed victory before a late Gary Shardha brace.

Sportsmans FC are also through as first half goals from Aaron Ramsbottom and Scott McNichol gave them a 2-0 success at Marton Cricket Club. The Fleece Inn are out however; losing 13-0 at Thornaby Village.

With the leaders in North Riding Cup action, Robert Thompsons took over at the top of Division One with a 6-0 victory over struggling Catterick Village. First half goals from Stu Rose and Dan McCalmont set Thompsons on their way to a tenth league win in ten games. After the break, Rose scored three more while Ryan McKendry completed a comfortable Thompsons success.

Henleys Athletic are second; level on points although they have played two games more, following a 5-2 win at Blue Star. Ryan Leslie and Marc Higgins were both on target for the hosts, but Curt Tasker, Tom Keegan, Johnny Rayner, Adam Pearson and an own goal sealed the points for Henleys.

Broughton Hibs beat bottom side Brompton-on-Swale, 3-0, to remain fourth. In a tale of their season to date, Brompton played well in the first half but missed several chances to take the lead, and they never recovered from Richard Egan's opener for Hibs early in the second half. Carl Hall then hit a late brace to give the score-line a rather flattering look.

Stokesley SC and Travaux FC fought out a 1-1 draw. Ashley Lytolis gave Travaux a first half lead but with twenty minutes to play, James Wilkinson equalised and that was the way it finished.

Brompton Juniors remain five points clear at the top of Division Two after a 6-2 win at Osmotherley Rangers. Andy Ranson gave Rangers an early lead but Colin Anderson scored four times for Brompton while Andy Caisley and Luke Toman were also on target. Simon Savory grabbed a late Rangers consolation.

Gt. Ayton Sheriffs are second following their 8-3 success at West Tanfield. Carl Greenwood gave the struggling hosts an early lead but a hat-trick from Mark Shimwell and a strike from Isaac White saw the Sheriffs lead 4-1 at half time. Tanfield refused to lie down as Matthew Sleight and Greenwood again found the target, but second half goals from Thomas Nichols, Michael Croft, White and Shimwell completed the scoring.

Stokesley Wanderers are third after a 5-2 success at Cowtons. Shaun Harrison's early header gave Wanderers the lead but Wayne Kennedy volleyed Cowtons level. Matty Crofts then restored the visitors advantage, but before the break, Kennedy made it 2-2 from the penalty spot. Wanderers would not be denied however, as James Yeend scored twice before Kieran Watson, who has assisted three of the earlier goals, got one for himself.

AFC Beckside are fourth after overcoming visitors Topcliffe, 5-2. Luke Burnett scored twice for Topcliffe but Jack Moore, Andrew Blenkharn, James Parkinson, Martin Cundy and Anth McMaster gave Beckside all three points.

The big game in Division Three saw leaders Knayton travel to four-placed Thirsk Town. Michael Lax, Dan George and Liam Cook put the hosts in control, but before the break, Rob Cowton pulled a goal back for the leaders. However, any hope of a comeback never materialised as Lax, George and Cook all scored again in the second half to seal a 6-1 Thirsk victory.

Standard FC were able to close the gap to four points with three games in hand after a 3-2 home success against Romanby 2014. The hosts raced into a three-goal lead inside half an hour with strikes from Malcolm Heron, Phil Sharpe and Phil Wrightson. Roy Smith and Chris Smales scored either side of the break for Romanby but Standard held on.

Workies are going well in third after a 5-0 victory at Vale of York. Tom Roirdan scored for the third match in row to give Workies the lead, while Stan Parry made it 2-0 at the break. Substitutes Mike Beales and Brad Powell-Smith then added their names to the score-sheet before top scorer Dave Tennant completed the rout.

County Arms won 6-2 at Jolly Minister. After a tight first half in which goals from County's Andrew Osgood and Jordan Wallace were cancelled out by a Scott Watson penalty and an own goal, County took control after the break. Iain Summerson, Wallace and another two from Osgood to complete his hat-trick, sealed victory.
