Hambleton League

THE FREEZING weather conditions last Sunday decimated the fixture list with only six matches across all three divisions beating the frost.

In Division One, Broughton Hibs moved into the top four with a 3-1 home victory over Blue Star, who had began the day just one point behind them. Carl Hall scored twice before the break to put Hibs in control, although it took a late strike from Paul Storey to finally seal the points.

There was a real thriller at Travaux FC where the hosts shared six goals with Catterick Village. Village raced into a 3-0 lead inside half an hour thanks to a brace from Michael Ingram and a strike from Danny Bolton. However, goals either side of the break from Pete Hurry and Jon McGuigan put Travaux back in touch and midway through the second half it was Hurry who grabbed the equaliser.

There was only one game in Division Two where a goal midway through the first half from Osmotherley Rangers' Andy Ranson was only enough to give them a 1-1 draw at The Fleece Inn.

Division Three leaders Knayton managed to get their game on against promotion rivals Standard FC and they were glad they did as a first half goal from Sam Reyner gave them a crucial 1-0 victory.

Romanby 2014 enjoyed a fine 8-2 success against Jolly Minister. The hosts started out at a cracking pace and raced into a 4-0 lead inside 35 minutes. Chris Smales opened the scoring after just three minutes from the penalty spot while an own goal soon doubled their advantage. Callum Brown made it 3-0 from an Adam Leahy corner before the appropriately named Kris Frost finished off a lovely through ball from Johny Fishburn. The Ministermen threatened a comeback as first Ryan Wilbor and then Chris Wilbor, from a tight angle, halved the deficit but Romanby weathered the storm thanks to some good defending from Brown, Fishburn, Josh Potter and Nick Fishburn. Then six minutes after the restart, Smales scored his second before Sean McCaskill headed home from a Frost corner to all but seal the points. With twenty minutes remaining, Smales completed his first ever hat-trick while in the closing stages Leahy rounded off a fine all round Romanby performance with the eighth.

The only other game to beat the weather saw goals from Liam Cook, Patrick Wheatley and Michael Lax give Thirsk Town a 3-3 draw against Streetlam Farmers.
