GUISBOROUGH TOWN continued their away form with two victories on the road by the only goal at Norton & Stockton Ancients in midweek followed by a dramatic 4-3 win at Dunston UTS on Saturday.

The league victory at Dunston was particularly satisfying for the Priorymen’s as Dunston were flying high in second place and had won their previous seven home league matches.

In a free-scoring, see-saw match the Priorymen went ahead in the 18th minute when Adam Gell scored his third goal of the season but the lead was short-lived as Dunston equalised when David Coulson hit his third goal so far this campaign. The scoreline remained 1-1 up to half-time but in the second half Guisborough soon regained the lead when a cross from Callum Martin forced Dunston to concede an own goal.

Guisborough stormed into a 3-1 lead when Liam McPhillips headed home a Martin corner kick for his third goal of the season. Dunston pulled one back just a minute later to make it 3-2 through Andrew Bulford but then Prioryman Danny Earl secured a well-earned victory by continuing his excellent goal-scoring form with his 11th goal of the season to make it 4-2.

Dunston did pull one back in the dying minutes with a penalty by Dale Burrell but Guisborough held on for well-deserved three points to lift themselves into seventh place in the league.

Guisborough manager Chris Hardy said afterwards: “In what proved to be an evenly-contested game, we held the upper hand for the most part due to breaking the deadlock first and then maintaining our dominant position throughout the whole game.

“Some of our play at times was excellent for all to see and, for me, the pleasing part was the fact that we were able to compete all over the park against a physically strong Dunston side from start to finish – which we knew we had do alongside our usual passing game to maximise our return from the match.”

The game was also a rehearsal for Saturday’s FA Vase second round tie between the two sides, again at Dunston.
