BROUGHTON and Kirby Hibs ensured a third-place finish after they ended their Division One campaign with a 4-2 win at Catterick Village last Sunday.

Village needed a win to avoid the drop, but a goal from Dave Walker gave the Hibs a narrow half-time advantage. Although Village did score twice in the second half to raise hopes of survival, Steve Kelly, Joe Thompson and Chris Naisby sealed the points to send the hosts back down to Division Two.

With a play-off needed to decide the Division One championship, the same scenario happened in Division Two. Joint leaders Appleton Wiske and Northallerton WMC began the final day level on points and both won again to send the title to a play-off.

Appleton came from behind to beat Osmotherley FC 4-2.

Martyn Pugh gave Ossie an early lead but a brace from Andy Cochrane and a strike from Rory Dodds put Wiske in control by half time. Pugh reduced the arrears with his second 20 minutes from time, but Dan Jones sealed the points soon after to set up the play-off with Northallerton WMC, who beat Cowtons 8-1.

Chris Smailes gave the Workies an early lead but Mark Sims brought Cowtons level from the penalty spot after half an hour. However, any Workies nerves were eased when Johnny Craven restored their advantage just before the break and they ran riot in the second half. Mark Buckle made it 3-1 on the hour before Mikey Stevens, with two, Nathan Hemingbrough, Al Brierley and Neil Hemingbrough completed the rout.

Travaux FC sealed the third promotion place despite being held to a 3-3 draw at bottom side Knayton. After a goalless first half, Martin Kendall gave the struggling hosts a 47th minute lead but Liam Ryan and a brace from Jon McGuigan looked to have put Travaux in control. However, Andrew Parkinson pulled one back for Knayton eight minutes from time before Kendall grabbed a last minute equaliser.

Three Coopers won a relegation six-pointer against Streetlam Farmers 6-1 to send their opponents down.

The match was all over by the break as a hat-trick from Matthew Allison and a strike from Phil Parker gave Coopers a 4-0 lead. Tom Chapman briefly raised Farmers’ spirits, but Ged Storey and Mark Patchett completed the scoring late on with Coopers surviving the drop on goals scored, having finished level on points with Farmers.
