A RESURGENT Guisborough Town registered their fourth consecutive win in their Easter Monday derby match against Marske United to maintain their bid for a top ten finish in the Ebac Northern League Division One.

The Priorymen had to work hard against their spirited neighboursMarske to clincha 1-0 win through a 70th minute Mikey Roberts goal, which propels them to ninth position in the table – and still with games in hand on some of the teams just above them.

However, they now face a daunting run of four away matches onthe trot withinthe nextten days, but Town manager Chris Hardy is highly delighted at how the club has turned its season around quite spectacularly over the past few games.

After seeing his side just shade a victory against Marske, following swiftly on from a tremendous 3-2 home win on Easter Saturday against second-placed West Auckland Town, a very pleasedHardy said: “This was another excellentthree points against our local rivals Marske, although the game itself was not a great spectacle as games ofthis type often seem to be.

“It would have been even more pleasing to have shown a lot more of the undoubted qualities we now possess against Marske, but having saidthat our visitorsmade life difficult for us from the off by not allowing us to control the tempo of the match with our usual passing game.

“The main pleasing factor for me today was that we again defended well enough to keep a clean sheet. If we can continue doing this, then more often than not we will go on to win games as our team currently has at least a goal or two in it – and this is exactly how the game against Marske panned out,” added the Guisborough chief.

Guisborough are at Shildon tomorrow and on Monday they have the return league fixture at their derby rivals Marske United (kick-off 7.30pm).
