NORTHALLERTON WMC reached the final of the North Riding Challenge Cup with a magnificent 6-3 victory at The Fountain FC, Middlesbrough last Sunday.

TheWorkies, who began the day on top of Division Two, had already qualified for the final of the Bob Seymour Trophy and they booked a second cup final appearance in fine style.

A first half brace from Ross Hodgson and a strike from Dan Baxter put them in control by the break, and while the hosts did score three times themselves in the second half, Wayne Thompson, Baxter and Hodgson again, to complete his hat-trick, sent the Workies through.

Broughton and Kirkby Hibs moved to within three points of Division One leaders Sportsmans FC after thrashing visitors Blue Star 8-1. James Mathias struck a hat-trick while AlexBrownscoredtwice as the Hibs dominated from the start.

Charles Mathias, Paul Storey and Dan Kitching then completed the scoring, while Tom James grabbed the Blue Star consolation.

Robert Thompsons saw their title hopes suffer a setback after being held to a 1-1 draw at a resurgent Stokesley SC.

The hosts went in front thanks to an early own goal but Ryan McKendry brought Thompsons level before the break and that was the way it finished. Thompsons are now six points off the top with just eight matches to play.

Catterick Village moved off thebottomafter a late equaliser from Adam Hodgkinson earned them a 1-1 draw at Croft FC. David Hookway fired thehosts aheadinthe firsthalf with a fine left-footed strike, but Hodgkinson rescued a pointfor Village three minutes from time.

Tithe Bar are now bottom and in big trouble after losing 3-1 at Kildale. Wayne Stephenson and James Walton put the hosts in control by the break while Walton added his second on the hour to seal the points.

Dan Waind scored a late Tithe consolation. Tithe are now three points from safety with just three matches left.

Travaux FC are the new leaders in Division Two after a 4-0 success at Bar One.

A goal from Gav Armstrong was all that separated the sides at the break, and that was the way it stayed until the final quarter of an hour when a brace from Pete Hurry and an own goal sent Travaux to the top.

Appleton Wiske are a point adrift in third after a dramatic comeback saw them snatch a 2-2 draw against Bromptonon-Swale.

Second half goals from David Reed and Chris Pickersgill looked to have given Brompton a shock victory, but David Ptak was sent offlate on and Appleton grabbed a point with two penalties in stoppage time, both converted by Martin Dauber.

Cowtons remain in the promotion frame after a thrilling 8-4 success at Three Coopers.

Tom Armstrong gave the visitors an early lead but Matthew Allison and Stu Adams quickly turned the match in Coopers’ favour.

However, Anth Weighall completed a hat-trick before the break while Mark Sims scored twice to put Cowtons in control.

Armstrong then added two more in the second half to complete a hat-trick of his own, while Allison did likewise to make the final score a breathless 8-4.

Leyburn All-Stars dropped downto fifthafter losing3-1at home to Ainderby SC.

John Bowes gave Leyburn an early lead but Will Stevenson brought the visitors level by the break. Kyle O’Gorman and John McStavick then sealed the points in the second half. Despite this defeat however, Leyburn remain just two points off the top.

The Ship are a further three points adrift after losing 3-2 at Knayton.

Osmotherley FC and Streetlam Farmers fought out a 1-1 draw.

Division Three leaders West Tanfield suffered their first defeat of the season, going down to a shock 3-2 reverse at County Arms.

Golden Lion, Romanby are third but look out of the title race despite coming from behind to grab a 2-2 draw with Station Hotel
