DARLINGTON manager Dave Penney yesterday made two further additions to his squad with the signings of midfield duo David Poole and Adam Griffin from Stockport County.
After a relatively quiet time on the transfer front since the end of the season, Penney's rebuilding plans are slowly gathering momentum.
Released Leyton Orient defender Clayton Fortune became his second signing of the summer at the weekend.
Penney has already signed Middlesbrough midfielder Jason Kennedy on a permanent basis.
And now the Quakers boss has further bolstered his midfield ranks with the acquisition of Poole and Griffin.
Following the departures of Julian Joachim and Neil Wainwright, Penney has been considering a number of right-sided options, eventually opting for Poole.
The 23-year-old is a product of Manchester United's Academy.
But after failing to make the grade at Old Trafford he moved to Yeovil Town in 2005.
He made 21 starts in League One for the Glovers before joining Stockport County on a permanent basis following a loan spell in 2006.
The Manchester-born winger scored two goals against Quakers on the final day of the 2006/07 season in Stockport's 5-0 win. But he was restricted to just 25 appearances last season and was not involved in any of their play-off games.
Penney will also hope the arrival of Griffin will strengthen his left-sided options.
The winger, also 23, was released at the end of last season after making 70 starts in two years at Edgeley Park.
Salford-born Griffin started his career at Oldham. During his time at Boundary Park he also spent loan spells at Chester City, Oxford United and Stockport - signing for the latter in 2006.
Despite making 33 appearances for County last season, he was not involved in the play-offs.
"David and Adam are young, hungry players and will be valuable additions to the squad," said Penney.
"They will add depth to our midfield and give us different attacking options."
