DARLINGTON'S play-off final tomorrow with Bamber Bridge is a sell-out.

Tickets went on sale yesterday morning for the promotion decider at Heritage Park and all 1,700 of Quakers’ allocation were gone by 9pm last night.

Brig have been given 300 tickets and they have around 100 remaining which they hope to sell today.

Quakers announced ticket details late on Wednesday, after defeating Spennymoor Town 3-2 in the play-off semi-final, and by 9am yesterday fans had arrived at Blackwell Meadows, an hour before they were due to go on sale, forming a queue which lasted all morning.

Hundreds of supporters turned up to the rugby club, leading to congestion on Grange Road, as fans abandoned their cars on the roadside.

The club said that by the afternoon that all general sale tickets had gone and the only remaining tickets were those put aside for season ticket holders who were unable to get to Blackwell Meadows in the morning.

Darlington Rugby FC volunteer helper Steve Thompson said police had been in touch after noticing congestion on Grange Road.

He said: "The interest from supporters is fantastic."

He joked: "Hopefully when they get this kind of numbers next season we will be able to convert them to watching rugby."

Quakers chief executive Martin Jesper added: "The amount of interest around the town for this game on Saturday is huge.

"The level of interest shows the appetite for Darlington FC in Darlington.

"If this enthusiasm for a one off game can be shown throughout next season then the future really does look bright for the club."

Quakers overcame Spennymoor in a match that came to a thrilling climax, David Dowson scoring a last-minute winner at a sold out Heritage Park.

One supporter, Alan Neil, returned home to Manchester immediately after the dramatic game before returning to Darlington yesterday morning to buy a ticket.

He said: “It was not the most well thought out plan, but I couldn't miss the final.”

Jim Wilson, from Leyburn, said he has supported Darlington for 50 years through "thin and thin" but is now hopeful there will some "thick".

He added: "I've just abandoned my car on Grange Road and expect to find a parking ticket when I get back.

"I was very worried watching them last night. They did ever so well to come back with 12 minutes to go. They've got to win on Saturday to keep the momentum going."

Quakers’ players were in training last night to prepare for tomorrow’s meeting with Bamber Bridge, a team Darlington defeated twice this season, 2-1 on each occasion.

Meanwhile, the Darlington 1883 Fundraising Group hold their end of season get together tomorrow, 7pm at the Dolphin Centre.

Match shirts will be handed to their sponsors, the away player of the season award will be given as voted for by fans on the Supporters Club bus.

The event is being sponsored by Glaxo Smith Kline and all proceeds will go into the Back To Darlo Fund.

Tickets are £5 each and will be available to purchase at tomorrow’s game at Heritage Park, behind the turnstiles near the entrance to the bar area and also at the fans table in the bar. They will also be available from Quaker Retail today.

*The Doodson Sport Cup was last night won by Warrington Town. They defeated Farsley on penalties after the sides had drawn 0-0 in a final held at Stockport County’s ground.

A youthful Darlington team exited the competition at the first round stage in November after losing a penalty shoot-out to Whitby Town.
