A GAS leak led to a full-scale alert on a North Sea oil platform
yesterday afternoon. More than 200 personnel on Total's North Alwyn
platform, 100 miles east of Shetland, were put on standby, but no
evacuation was necessary. Total say the leak was in a well and
production was shut down for six hours.
