NEW DELHI: 260 people have been killed in floods sweeping parts of

India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, the Press Trust of India said. The

Ram Ganga river was flowing almost 5ft above the danger level in

Farrukhabad district, about 170 miles south-east of Delhi, wiping out

hundreds of villages and ravaging crops. Relief operations were being

stepped up in other flood-hit districts, including Nainital in the

Himalayan foothills.
