DARLINGTON striker Ian Ward has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Martin Gray and placed on the transfer list.

Ward only joined the club from Durham City in March and scored three goals in six appearances during the closing stages of the campaign.

But since Gray brought in two more tall forwards in Liam Hatch from Gateshead and Graeme Armstrong from Whitby Town to a squad already including Amar Purewal, Ward’s future has appeared uncertain.

Ward is under contract so Quakers want a fee for his services and he will not be the only player leaving Darlington this summer.

There has been speculation surrounding a handful of Gray’s men and midfielder Jonny Davis is in talks with Durham City. He is expected to complete a move back to a club he played for in the Evo- Stik First Division.

Meanwhile, Darlington are looking to recruit a sports therapist or physio to work with the team next season.
