Dire Darlington lose at Lincoln
Lincoln City 5 Darlington 0
Darlington sank to a humiliating defeat at Lincoln City today - but they are not yet relegated.
Angry manager Craig Liddle said the performance was “nothing short of disgraceful”, as Quakers lost 5-0 with four of the goals coming before the break in a one-sided half at Sincil Bank.
But they remain 11 points from safety with 12 to play for however, it has long been accepted that Darlington are heading into the Conference North.
Quakers showed some fight in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Grimsby Town, but they were pitifully short of any sort of competitiveness before the break.
Lincoln went 4-0 up with two goals from Danny Lloyd and one from Jamie Taylor and another by ex-Quakers striker Jefferson Louis.
Louis was pulled down on the edge of the penalty area just before the break by Paul Johnson, resulting in a red card that Liddle had no qualms with.
In the second half Darlington recovered slightly, at least showing some spirit, but a fifth goal was added by Louis.
The veteran striker made little impression during a short spell with Darlington last season, but he added a second goal when he headed in at the near post.
Next up for Quakers is bottom-of-the-table Bath City on Saturday at The Northern Echo Arena.
