Ossett Town 1 Darlington 6
Darlington’s second high-scoring win of the week saw them ease past Ossett Town in the FA Trophy.
Three days after putting seven goals past Ossett Albion, they scored six against Town in the preliminary round of a competition they won in 2011.
Fittingly, two of the goals today were scored by Chris Moore, who played in the win against Mansfield Town at Wembley two years ago.
His second, a fabulous curling effort, came just before the break to make it 5-0, which was also the scoreline at half-time when Quakers were rampant in midweek.
They were just as impressive during the first 45 minutes today, when they scored an early goal and never looked back.
David Dowson reacted quickest to tuck home after Stephen Thompson's effort had been blocked.
Thompson had ran almost the full length of the pitch with the ball after Terry Galbraith had tackled Luke Sharry in the Quakers penalty area.
And on 14 minutes Alan White headed home following a Galbraith corner to put Darlington 2-0 up.
Moore notched for the first time to make it 3-0 on 28 minutes a pass by Thompson, drilling the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.
Ossett saw little of Quakers’ goal as Mark Bell was well protected, and although Andrew Fox did get a shot in, it was tipped over by the goalkeeper.
The fourth came from Amar Purewal, his eighth of the season, after good work by Dowson who pulled the ball back from byline which preceded Moore’s fine finish.
The second half, however, was more low key and with the result effectively sealed Darlington were content to play out the remaining 45 minutes without over exerting themselves.
Ossett pulled one back, James Eyles side-footing home on 62 minutes after meeting Steven Jeff’s left-wing cross, a goal that will have frustrated Quakers for losing the clean sheet.
And the hosts almost had a second, this time Eyles crossed for Henry Sibenge, but the ball was just out of reach for the substitute.
Manager Martin Gray made full use of his substitutes with Steven Johnson, Paul Robinson and Jordan Robinson all getting a run-out.
The latter pair both had shots at goal, Paul Robinson had a first-time shot saved comfortably by Thomas Taylor and in the final ten minutes Moore blasted across goal when in search of his hat-trick before Jordan Robinson volleyed wide.
Paul Robinson finally netted in injury time, volleying his first for the club to make it 6-1 to Darlington.
The win gives Quakers a tie away to Buxton, from the division above, in the next round in a fortnight’s time.
