Sunderland 1

Man United 2

All over at the Stadium of Light, and Sunderland remain rooted to the foot of the table with just one point.

They were excellent in the first half, but dropped out of the game as Manchester United's class told after the interval.

Was the character and effort enough to earn Kevin Ball the manager's job on a permanent basis?

We'll see. Although it was telling that there wasn't really a clamour for it from the Sunderland fans at any stage of the game.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 2

Last change for Sunderland as Wickham comes on to replace Ki.

They've done a bit of huffing and puffing since they fell behind, but Man United suddenly look pretty secure.

Sunderland 1

Man Utd 2 (Januzaj 61)

And now the turnaround is complete.

Roberge got his head to Nani's cross, but the ball flew to Januzaj, who dispatched a fantastic first-time volley into the corner of the net.

It's been a while since the Man Utd academy production line has clicked into action, but in the 18-year-old Belgian, they appear to have a real star on their hands.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 1

First substitution for Sunderland sees Larsson replace Gardner, who had just been booked for deliberate handball.

Sunderland 1

Man Utd 1 (Januzaj 55)

Manchester United equalise - and it's a lovely goal from Januzaj.

The youngster played the ball out to Evra on the left-hand side, and continued his run into the area to side-foot home the full-back's cross at the first time of asking.

Big few minutes for Sunderland to steady themselves now.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 0

Januzaj is booked for simulation after diving in the box in an attempt to win a penalty.

This is maiden Premier League start - he must have been watching Ashley Young in training......

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 0

Second half under way at the Stadium of Light, with no changes from either side. Can Sunderland mantain the intensity and drive they displayed before the break?

Sunderland 1

Man Utd 0

Half-time and Sunderland deservedly lead 1-0.

They've been extremely dangerous in attack and have made the most of some dreadful Man Utd defending. If anything, they could be even further ahead.

Sunderland's defence has held firm so far, but Man United are sure to mount a sustained push after the break and the hosts cannot afford to give the ball away in their own half.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 0

First booking as Rooney is penalised for a foul on Gardner. The Man Utd striker was clearly frustrated after losing possession.

Man Utd are starting to look more of a threat when they push forward, but there are gaps at the back for Sunderland to exploit when they break.

Sunderland 1 Man United 0

Sunderland so close to doubling their lead. Giaccherini header from Johnson cross was heading for corner before De Gea produced excellent diving save.

The transformation in Sunderland's play is incredible, but Man United's performance has been even more remarkable so far. Utterly shambolic in defence.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 0

Man United have just spurned a golden opportunity to get back on level terms, with Nani volleying Evra's cross wide of the target after pulling away from Colback on the edge of the six-yard box.

That chance aside though, Sunderland are full value for their lead. They've been full of purpose and intent from the off.

Whatever else he has or hasn't done, Kevin Ball certainly seems to have pulled the squad back together.

Sunderland 1 Man Utd 0

Could have been 2-0 to Sunderland as Jones' nightmare start continued. Gardner robbed him and went into the box, but Jones recovered to tackle.

Both Jones and Vidic were culpable for Sunderland's goal. Jones should have done better with initial clearance, then Vidic also had an opportunity to clear but failed to do so.

Sunderland 1 (Gardner 5)

Man Utd 0

Incredible start as Sunderland claim the lead in the fifth minute.

Giaccherini drilled in a shot from the edge of the area that was blocked, however Jones' attempted clearance only fell to Gardner, who kept his nerve well to drill a low shot into the bottom corner.

It was an awful defensive error from Jones, but just what the doctor ordered for Sunderland and their caretaker boss, Kevin Ball.

Sunderland 0 Man Utd 0

We're underway at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland lining up in a 4-5-1 formation.

Johnson is on the left, with Giaccherini on the right. Ki is the furthest forward of the three central midfielders.

Sunderland vs Man United

Ellis Short popped into the Stadium of Light press room before kick-off, but was remaining tight-lipped about his pursuit of a new manager.

However, his programme notes certainly suggest a new man will be installed during the international break.

Will it be Kevin Ball? He certainly wants the position on a full-time basis, and his claims would certainly be enhanced if Sunderland were to pull off a victory tonight.

It'll be interesting to see whether Ki and Cattermole can control a central area that has caused Manchester United problems in recent matches.

However, O'Shea and Roberge will certainly have to be at the top of their game to neuter Rooney and van Persie.

Middlesbrough 4 Yeovil Town 1

Here's your full-time match report.

Sunderland vs Man United

Big night at the Stadium of Light as managerless Sunderland take on reigning champions Manchester United.

Caretaker Black Cats boss Kevin Ball has made two changes to the side that lost at home to Liverpool last weekend, with Valentin Roberge and Ondrej Celustka coming into the team.

Roberge replaces Carlos Cuellar at the heart of the back four, with Celustka slotting in at right-back.

Craig Gardner moves out of the back four and into the midfield, with Seb Larsson dropping out of the starting XI.

Manchester United have lost their last two league fixtures, but under-pressure David Moyes is boosted by the return of Wayne Rooney, who missed Tuesday's Champions League game in Donetsk through injury.

SUNDERLAND (4-5-1): Westwood; Celustka, O'Shea, Roberge, Colback; Johnson, Ki, Cattermole, Gardner, Giaccherini; Altidore.

Subs: Mannone (gk), Cuellar, Cabral, Larsson, Borini, Ji, Wickham.

MAN UTD (4-4-1-1): De Gea; Rafael, Vidic, Jones, Evra; Januzaj, Carrick, Cleverley, Nani; Rooney; van Persie.

Subs: Lindegaard (gk), Smalling, Kagawa, Valencia, Giggs, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Mansfield 1 Hartlepool 4

Comprehensive, deserved win. Set the standards with this one.

Middlesbrough 4 Yeovil Town 1

Middlesbrough 4 Yeovil Town 1

Three minutes added time here. Boro easing to their second win of the season.

Ossett Town 1 Dalington 6

Ossett Town 1 Darlington 6

Paul Robinson scores his first for the club in injury time to make it 6-1 to Darlington.

Mansfield 1 Hartlepool 4

Game over. If there was a bit of a worry, it's gone now. Compton rolled the ball into Poole's feet, his picked his spot low from the edge of the area past Marriott.

Mansfield 1 Hartlepool 3

Penalty to Mansfield, handball against Collins, ref indicated his hands were too high when he blocked. Clucas drilled it down the middle, 15 to go.

Middlesbrough 4 (Kamara 74) Yeovil Town 1

Boro more than comfortable now, as Kei Kamara thunders a header past Hennessey from Carayol's cross. Lovely stuff.

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool 3

Pools in control. Untroubled largely at the back against a team eight unbeaten, who, it has to be said, are desperately poor.

Pools finding it too easy at times. The Stags defenders ..... well...... sometimes it's best not to say anything.

Middlesbrough 3 Yeovil Town 1

Marvin Emnes is replaced by Muzzy Carayol here, as Boro look comfortable. Jozsef Varga is warming up as the hosts look to be shutting up shop

Odemwingie, 58.

The striker cut inside Krul and finished after Cardiff had broken down the left.

Middlesbrough 3 (Butterfield 50) Yeovil Town 1

A peach. Under no pressure from Yeovil's defence whatsoever, Jacob Butterfield carries the ball and unleashes an exocet into the bottom corner past Hennessey. Can't see that two-goal cushion being breached now. But you never know...

Ossett Town 1 Darlington 5
Ossett pulled one back, James Eyles side-foots home on 62 minutes after meeting Steven Jeff’s left-wing cross. A shame to lose the clean sheet.

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool United 3

Jack Compton gets his second goal of the day - a delightful clipped free kick over the wall and into the net from 20 yards.

Mansfield put two subs on at ht - and gone with at least three up front.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 5
First sub for Darlington, Steven Johnson for David Dowson after 61 minutes.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 5
A low-key start to the second half in which the only moment of note saw a powerful Christopher Wood saved at a stretch by Mark Bell.

Middlesbrough 2 Yeovil Town 1

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 5

Middlesbrough 2 Yeovil Town 1

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool 2

Two very good strikes from distance give Pools the advantage.

Monkhouse and Compton on target, both from similar areas, and Colin Cooper's side are in control and good value for it.

Cardiff 0 Newcastle 2

Magpies go in at the break two up thanks to Loic Remy's double. Thoroughly deserved lead. They've kept the ball, passed well and made the most of the space Cardiff are affording them.

Middlesbrough 2 Yeovil Town 1

Three minutes added on.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 5
Apparently Clyde Wijnhard is here, so I’m told anyway. He must be impressed with this Darlington performance. Is 5-0 and could be more.

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool 2

Great low strike from Compton - cut inside on his left foot and drilled a low one past Marriott at the near post. Fully deserved lead.

Will it be seven again? Ossett Town Darlington 5. Goals from Dowson, White, Moore 2 and Purewal

Osset Town 0 Darlington 5

Darlington 5-0 up at half-time....AGAIN! Chris Moore curls home from the edge of the penalty area.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 4
Darlington 4-0 up now, Amar Purewal with his eighth of the season after good work by Dowson, pulling ball back from byline.

38 - Remy with his second, placing the ball into the bottom corner after Marshall had parried Cisse's shot.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 3
Darlington continue to stroll through this one. Thompson has seen a fierce blast after cutting inside fly inches over the bar, while the closest Ossett have come was a long-range effort by midfielder Luke Sharry that curled well wide.

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool 1

Pools doing well, organised and solid and should be a couple in front.

Compton rolled into Monkhouse six yards out and he got the ball stuck between his feet when he should have smashed it in.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 3

30 - Loic Remy opens the score with a superb solo effort. The striker collected the ball just inside Cardiff's half, ran and cut inside before unleashing a low effort inside Marshall's post.

Newcastle deserve their lead. Had the possession and the chances.

Cardiff 0 Newcastle 0

Remy misses another chance to put Newcastle ahead after Debuchy had cut the ball back to him in the area.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 3
Thompson’s assist came after a patchy couple of minutes for the play-maker. Twice in two minutes he wasted opportunities that he had helped created. The first, after taking the ball beyond right-back Scott McGrory, before blasting a high cross out for a throw on the opposite side of the pitch, and then he took a pass from Dowson, but the shot was weak and off-target.
And then he collected possession midway inside Ossett’s half, ran at the defence and laid the ball off for Moore to strike.

Middlesbrough 2 (Adomah 24) Yeovil Town 1

GOAL! Albert Adomah volleys Boro into the lead, after Grant Leadbitter's penalty was pushed on to the post by Hennessey. The penalty, by the way, was awarded after George Friend was felled in the area by Joel Grant. Boro looking comfortable here.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 3
Chris Moore makes it 3-0 on 28 minutes with his second goal of the season after a pass by Stephen Thompson. He drilled the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.

Mansfield 0 Hartlepool 1

Astonishing decision from the referee - Luke James felled in the area, goes to ground for a clear penalty.

Referee Graham Horwood blew instantly and booked James for diving. Bizarre isn't the word.

Cardiff 0 Newcastle 0

The Magpies should be ahead here. David Marshall with two fine saves. He denied Remy from close range and then Sissoko from distance moments later.

Middlesbrough 1 Yeovil Town 1

Chances! Kei Kamara heads against the crossbar, then gets up and volleys the rebound against the post. George Friend was eyeing it up but the striker got there first. Should have been a second. Boro's front three seem to have too much for Yeovil.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 2
Good chance goes begging for Darlington. After good work from Leon Scott in midfield, he released Stephen Thompson who ran at a back-peddling defence, but pulled his shot awfully wide.
Darlington untroubled thus far with keeper Mark Bell well protected.

Middlesbrough 1 (Leadbitter 8) Yeovil Town 1

Boro get back on level terms through Grant Leadbitter, who now becomes Boro's top scorer for the season. Leadbitter volleyed Albert Adomah's cross into the ground and Wayne Hennessey could only watch as it bounced over his head into the goal. Terms!

Mansfield Town 0 Hartlepool United 1

Eight mins in and Pools in front - what a strike too.

Andy Monkhouse took a short pass, let it roll in front of him and, from 25 yards cracked in.

Cardiff 0 Newcastle 0

Newcastle have seen plenty of the ball early on. Couple of half decent chances created, but they've failed to take any of them.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 2

Alan White heads home on 14 minutes to put Darlington 2-0 up after a corner.

Middlesbrough 0 Yeovil Town 1 (Davies 4)

Boro go one down and it's absolutely rotten. Liam Davies pounces on a loose ball in midfield, waltzes into the box and wrongfoots Jason Steele with a low shot in at his near post. Steele had steeled himself for a shot across, transferred all of his weight on to his left foot and Davies made no mistake. Boro behind at the Riverside again.

Middlesbrough v Yeovil Town

We're under way here on Teesside. Middlesbrough resplendent in red, Yeovil great in green. Let's play football.

Ossett Town 0 Darlington 1

David Dowson scores after five minutes, reacting quickest to tuck home after Stephen Thompson's effort had been blocked.

Thompson had ran almost the full length of the pitch with the ball after Terry Galbraith had tackled Luke Sharry in the Quakers penalty area.

Ossett Town v Darlington

Darlington unsurprisingly name an unchanged team for today’s FA Trophy tie at Ossett Town.
The same XI that won 7-0 on Wednesday against Ossett Abion are selected today for the preliminary round tie.
The only change is on the bench where youth team player Adam Cocks replaces the injured Jonny Davis.
Ossett Town: Taylor, McGrory, Jeff, Patterson, Fisher, Qualter, Fox, Sharry, Wood, Eyles, Moke. Subs: Sibenge, Hawthorne, Wood, Grant, Liburd
Darlington (4-4-2): Bell; Pilatos, Hunter, White, Galbraith; Moore, Edwards, Scott, Thompson; Dowson, Purewal. Subs: Jameson (gk), Cocks, J Robinson, P Robinson, S Johnson

Mansfield v Hartlepool

HARTLEPOOL UNITED: Flinders; Baldwin, Collins, Burgess; Duckworth, Walton, Poole, Compton, Austin; Monkhouse, James. Subs: Franks, Rafferty (gk), Sweeney, Richards, Holden, Rodney, Walker.
Referee: Graham Horwood

Matty Dolan has failed a fitness test and misses out. He's suffering from a groin strain picked up in training yesterday.

Sam Collins starts, and it remains to be seen if Pools play 3-5-2 or 4-3-3, with Jack Baldwin moved into midfield.

Here's Scott Wilson's views on the Sunderland situation. It's a big one tonight at the Stadium of Light
Darlington and Stockton Times: Kevin Ball

Cardiff City v Newcastle United

Cardiff: Marshall; Theophile-Catherine, Caulker, Turner, Taylor; Whittingham, Medel, Kim, Gunnarsson; Campbell, Odemwingie.

There's 27 minutes until kick-off at the Riverside Stadium, here's a feature with Boro's striker Kei Kamara on life on Teesside.

Darlington and Stockton Times: Kei Kamara celebrating after he scored his sides first goal

Middlesbrough v Yeovil Town

TEAM NEWS: Mustapha Carayol misses out this afternoon as Marvin Emnes returns from injury. That's the only change for Boro as they set out to end their winless streak today.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-3-3): Steele; Richardson, Gibson, Williams, Friend; Butterfield, Whitehead, Leadbitter; Adomah, Kamara, Emnes. Subs: Leutwiler, Hoyte, Varga, Jutkiewicz, Hines, Carayol, Smallwood.

YEOVIL TOWN: Hennessey, McAllister, Edwards, Webster, Upson, Duffy, Madden, Ralls, Davies, Grant, Williams. Subs: Dunn, Ayling, Seaborne, Dawson, Foley, Moore, Hoskins.

Love this that Twitter user Luke Parkinson tweeted last night. A pretty graphic of Boro v Yeovil. Mind you, the only picture that matters come 5pm will be the one of a beaming Tony Mowbray. Massive game today.
