Match Analysis: Darlington 3 Kendal Town 1

Two second half goals by substitute Amar Purewal ensured Darlington returned to winning ways and put Saturday’s loss behind them.

They defeated Kendal Town 3-1 with Andy Johnson scoring the other goal, having netted an early penalty, which means they can forget about the weekend 4-2 loss at Farsley.

But Martin Gray’s side had to work hard for their win today at Heritage Park.
It looked like being a stress-free day when Johnson netted from the spot after Stephen Thompson had been felled by Danny Coid.

But Kendal were strong opponent and gave Darlington problems.

They deserved to equalise on 55 minutes when Jordan Connerton tucked home following a Coid pass.

That was the catalyst for Darlington to up their game though, with Purewal coming to the fore.

He had not started the game due to illness, but had to be sent on in the first half when David Dowson suffered a recurrence of a hamstring strain.

Purewal restored Darlington’s lead when he headed home at the near post after meeting Paul Weldon’s corner, and in the closing stages the sub netted again.

He bundled home from close-range after good work by Thompson on the byline who had received the ball following a pin-point cross-field pass by Craig Gott.
