SEVE Ballesteros added to Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher's

problems yesterday when he became the second member of the team to

suffer a neck injury.

The 36-year-old Spaniard succumbed five days after Bernhard Langer had

to pull out of the European Masters with a similar problem.

Ballesteros, runner-up in Switzerland on Sunday, was unable to take

part in a nine-hole charity match at East Sussex where the GA European

Open begins tomorrow. He complained of stiffness last Friday, but

yesterday cricked his neck and was unable to turn his head properly. So

far, however, he has not withdrawn from today's pro-am.

Sam Torrance has missed the last three events with a bruised chest,

but he returns to action tomorrow.

STEPHEN Young (Inverallochy), the Scottish boys' champion, and Chris

Smith, from Scarborough South Cliff, share the lead on level-par 144

going into the third and final round of the Daily Express National Boys'

championship in La Manga. Yesterday, Young shot a 73 and Smith a

four-under-par 68. Leading aggregates:
