After three weeks without a game, Darlington have one eye on the weather forecast and are desperate to get back into action tomorrow at Ossett Albion.

Kick-off has already been brought forward an hour to a 2pm kick-off due to a problem with the host club’s floodlights, but the match itself looks likely to go ahead for what will be Quakers’ first game in three weeks.

The forecast is favourable with none of the conditions responsible for postponing six of Darlington’s matches since the beginning of December expected in West Yorkshire, and Quakers boss Martin Gray can’t wait to get back into action.

His team are positioned well in the table, in third place with five games in hand on leaders Salford and second-top Northwich, while the manager is eager to give latest signing Nathan Cartman his debut.

The new recruit will play some part tomorrow versus the club against whom at the beginning of this month he scored the last of his 36 goals this season for Harrogate RA before switching to Darlington last week.

Cartman netted three in a friendly last Saturday against Billingham Synthonia, played when Quakers’ match at home to Prescot Cables was postponed.

“I’m delighted with our season so far,” said Gray. We’re in a great position, we’ve got a good squad and I’m pleased about the signing we’ve brought in.

“He scored three goals last Saturday. Even though it was only a friendly, in any games it’s good for a striker to hit the back of the net, it just gets him settled down. He played a full game and could’ve scored six, he was excellent.

“Everybody has been saying to me ‘how have you signed him?’

“He’s been accepted into the group, a very confident young lad in his own way, he’s a nice lad and just gets on with his game, so I’m delighted with his approach.

“He’s proven to be the best at what he does in this league and everybody is excited about seeing him play for Darlington now.”
