DARLINGTON left-back Paul Weldon has joined Durham City in the Ebac Northern League.

The 22-year-old Middlesbrough academy product began Quakers' season in the team, but knee and ankle problems kept him on the sidelines for lengthy spells.

In his absence, Terry Galbraith has made the left-back berth his own, while Leon Scott can also play in the position if required.

Scott is now available after serving a three-match ban so will be in the squad when Quakers face Curzon Ashton in Saturday's must-win game at Heritage Park.

Curzon are second and six points ahead of Darlington with a game in hand.

Weldon could make his Durham debut this evening when eighth-placed City travel to Newcastle Benfield.

Meanwhile, Darlington fan Martin Deans has been shortlisted for the Evo-Stik Supporter of the Year Award.

Clubs from all three of the Evo-Stik leagues nominated over 50 supporters for the accolade and Mr Deans is among the final five.

He will all be invited to the Evo-Stik Awards presentation dinner in April when the winner will be announced.

A lifelong Quakers supporter, Mr Deans travels to every Darlington from his home in London and also volunteers as a steward for matches at Heritage Park.
