Quakers commence pre-season friendlies
Darlington supporters will get their first glimpse of their team's new signings this weekend when Quakers play two friendlies in two days.
They are at Shildon (7.30pm) this evening and Whitby Town tomorrow and Paul Robinson, Chris Hunter, Andy Johnson and Chris Moore will feature in both fixtures.
As they ease their way back into action, the Northern League champions plan to give every player 45 minutes each, though goalkeepers Mark Bell and Craig Turns will play one full game each.
"These matches are to get the players a game to blow the cobwebs off," said assistant manager Brian Atkinson, who is in charge this evening as boss Martin Gray is away.
"It'll be good to get everybody back into the routine of playing because everybody, the supporters included, are dying for the season to start."
As well as the new boys being in action, several trialists are likely to feature: Alex Francis, Jamie Poole, Dan Riley and Rory Prendergast.
Midfielder Riley is a former Darlington youth team player and was with Team Northumbria last season, while Prendergast, a winger or left-back, has played for a glut of clubs and had a loan spell with Quakers in 2007.
Admission this evening is £4 adults and £2 concessions. Under 12s are admitted free with an accompanying adult.
Kick-off at the Turnbull Ground tomorrow is 3pm with prices £5 for adults, £3 for concessions (seniors and disabled) and £1 for under 18s.
Next week, Darlington are at Newton Aycliffe on Wednesday (7.30pm) and a Quakers play at Darlington RA 24 hours later.
