A DALE football team have brought home the 'World Cup' for a second year.

Cockfield Primary School's football team were one of 16 teams to take part in the Staindrop Primary World Cup 2017, on July 6.

The returning champions won their first four matches and drew a fifth which gained them a place in the quarter finals where they claimed victory over Copeland Road and Middleton in the semi finals.

In the final they took on Ox Close Primary, from Spennymoor, and won 1-0 to huge cheers.

Deputy headteacher, Lyn Boustead, said: "The team had a strong focus, as they wanted to retain the trophy from last year."

She added: "This year the team has already celebrated winning the Teesdale football league, for the second year running, and also having the honour of being awarded Primary School of the Year for Sport.

"They left Staindrop school with their heads held high.

"Well done to all of the team."
