DARLINGTON'S play-off final against Bamber Bridge is now a sell-out.

The club confirmed this afternoon that all general sale tickets had gone and the only remaining tickets were those put aside for season ticket holders who were unable to get to Blackwell Meadows this morning.

These were sold at Blackwell Meadows from 5pm until 9pm today. The club has now confirmed that all tickets have been sold.

Hundreds of fans turned up to the rugby club to buy tickets for Saturday's game this morning.

There was congestion on Grange Road, as fans abandoned their cars on the roadside.

Darlington won through to the Evo Stik Division One North play off final with a 3-2 victory against Spennymoor last night.

Jim Wilson, from Leyburn, said he has supported Darlington for 50 years through "thin and thin" but is now hopeful there will some "thick".

He added: "I've just abandoned my car on Grange Road and expect to find a parking ticket when I get back.

"I was very worried watching them last night. They did ever so well to come back with 12 minutes to go.

"They've got to win on Saturday to keep the momentum going."

Colin and Kath Grebby, season ticket holders, arrived just after 9.30am to get their tickets.

They said: "We're season ticket holders and we're both retired so we were determined to get some tickets.

"It's a bit disorganised. There were supposed to be two tables, one for season ticket holders and one for everyone else but there isn't.

"There's just three ladies but they are doing a fantastic job."

The Northern Echo:

It had been thought that tickets would be limited to two per person but Mr Grebby said people seem to be able to get as many as they want.

"There'll be hell on if there's none left when people turn up tonight after work," he added.

Club chief executive Martin Jesper said: "The amount of interest around the town for this game on Saturday is going to huge.

"The level of interest shows the appetite for Darlington FC in Darlington.

"If this enthusiasm for a one off game can be shown throughout next season then the future really does look bright for the club."

Mr Jesper said tickets are limited to two per person however if someone came with two season tickets they could buy four.

Darlington RFC volunteer helper Steve Thompson said police had been in touch after noticing congestion on Grange Road.

He said: "The interest from supporters is fantastic."

He joked: "Hopefully when they get this kind of numbers next season we will be able to convert them to watching rugby."
