DARLINGTON'S match at Kendal Town today was abandoned after only 15 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.
Despite torrential rain in Cumbria, the pitch passed an inspectionat 2.20pm, referee Paul Kettlewell clearly determined to give the game a go, despite the protestations of Quakers' manager Martin Gray and his assistant Brian Atkinson.
They feared one of their players could be injured while playing on the flooded pitch, not to mention the farce that the match would become.
Predictably enough, the ball frequently stopped dead in puddles and players lost their balance, making a mockery of Kettlewell's decision.
Darlington are next in action on Saturday at Heritage Park against Brighouse Town.
