IT IS tight at the top of Division One with three teams all on nine points.

Defending champions Northallerton Police lead the way on goal difference after last Sunday’s 8-0 win at Brompton-on-Swale. The newly-promoted hosts had been enjoying a fine start to life back in the top flight but they never recovered from an early Jason Newall goal and they were well beaten in the end. Ben Darville hit a hattrick while Gary Shardha, Nathan Hemingbrough, Chris Walker and a second from Newall completed the rout.

Robert Thompsons are second after beating Sportsmans FC surprisingly easily, 7-0.

The match, which was expected to be a closely-fought encounter, was over before the break as Stu Rose hit a hattrick and Dan McAlmont was also on target. It was more of the same in the second period as Liam McAlmont and two more from Dan McAlmont, to complete his hat-trick, sealed an impressive Thompsons victory.

Henleys Athletic are also on nine points after a 4-0 home victory over Travaux FC. Adam Pearson made the breakthrough on the hour while a 20-minute hat-trick from Tom Keegan meant there was no way back for Travaux.

There was a dramatic tie in the Frank Bainbridge Cup as Stokesley SC beat Catterick Village, 3-1. An early goal looked enough for the hosts’ but Village equalised late on, but Michael James and Anth McCardle sent Stokesley through.

Gt. Ayton Sheriffs are firing their way to the top of Division Two as they made it three wins out of three with a 6-3 victory over West Tanfield.

Golden Lion are second after a 5-0 success at Cowtons. A goal from Tom Chapman separated the sides at the break.

Chapman scored twice after the restart to complete his hattrick.
