COLBURN TOWN are the new league leaders after last Saturday saw them win 2-0 at Richmond Mavericks Reserves. Both these sides will be among the title favourites this season and both had won their opening matches of the new season, scoring 15 goals in the process. But a tight game was decided by second half goals from Tom Sweeney and Stu Murray. The Colburn strike-pair, who scored nearly 90 goals between them last season, have now hit seven already this campaign as Colburn set the early pace.

The only other side to win both their opening two matches are new-boys Bedale Town Reserves, who won 3-2 at Spennithorne and Harmby. An early goal for the hosts by Jake Gamble-Schofield was all that separated the sides at the break although Liam Johnson equalised two minutes into the second half. Liam Reeves then restored the Spenni advantage but Bedale finished strongly as goals from substitutes Ross Hodgson and Sam Lyon gave them a second successive victory.

Catterick Garrison Football Centre are enjoying a fine start to the season and they swept aside Richmond Buck Inn, 4-1. The Buck led for much of the first half after an early Scott Healey strike but Andrew Constantine equalised right on the stroke of half time and the Garrison began to dominate after the break. Daniel Deeney put them ahead soon after the restart while Steven Files and Pete Hurry sealed the points in the closing stages.

Unicorn FC and Hawes United both remain unbeaten after the heavyweight clash of the last two league champions finished 2-2. Two goals from Gav Armstrong midway through the first half looked to have set Unicorn on their way to an important three points but Jonathon Champion halved the Hawes' arrears just before the break. That led to a dominant second half performance from the defending champions, but after seeing several chances to equalise go astray, including a strike from Martyn Allen which came back off the woodwork, Champion finally brought them a point in the closing stages.

Richmond Town Academy got their season up and running with a 3-2 success at Reeth. Nathan Deacon and Daniel MacKenzie scored either side of the break to put the Academy in control but Reeth fought back with goals from Steven Bainbridge and Steve Allison. However, Richmond would not be denied a first three points of the season as Ryan Howe popped up just past the hour with what proved to be the winner.

Catterick Rovers collected their first win of the season as second half goals from Javan Asimba and Lee Fyfe gave them a 2-0 victory over visitors Askrigg United, who remain bottom of the table without a point or a goal to their name.
