Summary

  • Darlington host semi-final at Heritage Park
  • Game to be settled this evening
  • Bamber Bridge wait in Saturday's final

9:43pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

All over, and Darlington have failed to make the play-off final.

9:40pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Darlo will finish with ten men here after Robinson is sent off for two bookings in stoppage time.

9:32pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Into the final five minutes here, and Darlington's play-off assualt is as good as over.

In truth, they've been second best over the course of the game. But it's a long time since I've seen anything close to the ineptitude of referee Kevin Mulraine.

9:14pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Just over 20 minutes left, and it's getting increasingly difficult to see how Darlo can get back into this.

Ramsbottom have passed up a couple of decent opportunities to add to their lead, but Darlo are struggling to get enough men forward to threaten their opponents' goal.

9:03pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Martin  Gray is now sitting three or four seats away from us in the stand becuse he was sent off for protesting to the referee at half-time.

If he was furious then, the decision to send off Thompson is hardly likely to have improved his mood.

8:56pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Darlington have been reduced to ten men four minutes into the second half.

Having been booked in the first half, Thompson has received a second yellow card for what was deemed to be a dive in the area.

8:38pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Half-time, and Ramsbottom lead 2-0.

They've been the better team, but Darlington have been on the wrong end of some truly atrocious refereeing, particularly when Roberts should have been sent off in the very first minute.

8:25pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2

Darlington are finally enjoying their best spell of the game, and Dowson has just gone within inches of clawing a goal back.

Brown headed the ball back to the striker, but he drilled just past the right-hand post from the edge of the area.

8:19pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 2 (Hulme 32)

Darlington have been rocking ever since Ramsbottom claimed the lead - and they've now gone 2-0 down.

Hulme dribbled his way in from the left flank, and with the Darlo centre-halves standing off, he slotted a low strike past Bell.

8:11pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 1 (Spencer 24)

Darlington fall behind midway through the first half.

The goal was simplicity itself, with Spencer completely unmarked as he headed home Priestley's corner from ten yards.

8:07pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 0

First real chance for Darlo sees Tait head Thompson's corner over the crossbar at the far post.

8:03pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 0

Fifteen minutes gone, and all fairly tense.

Neither side has had a real chance on goal, although Ramsbottom's physical approach has seen them secure the upper hand in the central midfield area.

7:54pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 0

Scott tried to continue after that early horror challenge, but he's been forced off through injury.

Not the start Darlo would have wanted, with Walker coming on to replace him.

7:49pm

Darlington 0 Ramsbottom 0

We're under way, and there's drama in the very first minute.

Ramsbottom full-back Owen Roberts thudded into Leon Scott with a desperately poor tackle.

The referee could quite easily have reached for a straight red card - but instead he only booked the Ramsbottom defender.

7:47pm

7:36pm

Warm-ups completed, and the two teams are heading into the dressing room for the final time.

Former Darlington boss, and European Cup winner, David Hodgson is a notable face in the crowd.

7:27pm

7:19pm

"Alive and Kicking" has just been ringing out over the Heritage Park tannoy, which seems extremely fitting.

The Quakers looked down and out a couple of years ago, but if they can make it out of the Evo-Stik First Division by Saturday night, that'll be two fifths of their journey back to the Football League complete.

7:15pm

Darlington's team is as follows:

Bell; Brown, Tait, Hunter, Galbraith; Mitchell, Robinson, Scott, Thompson; Dowson, Purewal.

Subs: Pocklington, Ward, White, Fisher, Walker.

7:13pm

7:13pm

7:12pm

The other semi-final took place last night, with Bamber Bridge beating Warrington.

The winners of tonight's tie will therefore host Bamber Bridge in the play-off final on Saturday.

7:11pm

Welcome to Heritage Park for live coverage of this evening's Evo-Stik play-off semi-final between Darlington and Ramsbottom.

Kick-off is about half-an-hour away, and the tie must be settled this evening.

Let me guess....all the criticism after the game is going to be aimed at the referee and not at the Darlington team who have been woeful this evening. Manager gets it wrong again........Martin Gray, is a poor manager and the Club are now in desperate trouble , both on and off the pitch.

The harsh reality is that the club is a million miles and many years away from a return to the FL - the remaining hard core fans deserve much better than this.

Darlo's bogey team strike again, catastrophic result for the club! Some tough decisions to be made by the board!
