HEAD BOY: Durham City’s Josh Gray takes on the Guisborough Town defence

AN injury-time penalty denied Guisborough Town what would have been a richly-deserved point as they went down to a 2-1 Northern League defeat at Durham City on Saturday.

The windy conditions threatened to spoil the match as a spectacle, but both teams battled hard yet were unable to break the deadlock to leave things at a 0-0 stalemate at the interval.

In the second half the Priorymen got the upper hand but it was Durham who took the lead on the break with a 60th minute Josh Gray shot that beat Guisborough goalkeeper Danny Dixon.

Two minutes later Dixon kept Guisborough in close contention with a great block with his legs to keep out an Ian Ward shot.

A tactical move by the visitors paid off when in the last six minutes of normal time substitute Luke Bythway scored his 62nd career goal for the Priorymen with a shot that beat Rhys Jobling and bring Town deservedly back level at 1-1.

An extra three minutes were added on after normal time and within the first minute a foul just inside the penalty area led to a spot kick from which Scott Fenwick scored the winner.
