OLIVER Greenall continued his rich vein of form and relentless march to the National jockies title when landing a treble at the Zetland meeting, held at Witton Castle on Monday. It is now 37 winners for the season for him.
The first two winners were both trained by David Easterby, the first of whom was his fatherfs North Island (B Dunn/Middleton) in the Intermediate.
The 4-1 shot raced prominently, the favourite Cop Howe, ridden by Jacqueline Coward, was held up early but started to challenge from the second last.
North Island rallied strongly and, despite the best efforts of the favourite, was always in command and led by eight lengths at the line. Cop Howe finished second, four lengths in front of David Brydonfs Brownfs Beck, held every chance three out but could not go the pace of the first two under Steve Charlton.
Win number two was Tom Bannisterfs George The Grey (Middleton) in the Restricted.
George The Grey was ten lengths back at the final fence but flew down the run in, leading close home to win by length. Second place was Quinta De Lobo, Richard Smithfs mount made every yard of the running until headed in the final strides. A length further back in third was the Kelly Bryson-ridden Amour Daria, who could not quicken after the final fence.
Greenall completed his hattrick on Lord Daresburyfs Von Origny (Sir WWW), who is trained by Corinne Wynne in the Menfs Open. The favourite went second four from home and was in front by the next. He never got clear of the field and was strongly challenged on the flat by the Nathan Moscrop ridden Lutin Du Moulin who just failed to reach the winner by a neck.
The Serena Brotherton owned and ridden Welcome To Unos (Sinnington) was the easy winner of the Ladiesf Open.
On Saturday the Bilsdale Point to Point takes place at Easingwold, first race 2pm.
