THIS EVENING, Newcastle stages a sixrace card ahead of their big meeting tomorrow, the Northumberland Plate.
Tonight’s highlight comes up at 7.25pm with the Gosforth Park Cup over the flying 5f.
Thirsk-based Alan Dickman saddles recent York winner Ishetoo in a bid to land a decent prize. Apprentice find of the season Jamie Kyne is taking the ride again and a bold bid is on the cards for the five-year-old.
With ten winners in the last week, Mark Johnston’s horses continue in great nick and the Middleham handler could add another big win to his CV this weekend in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.
Johnston will have two big chances with Keenes Day and Record Breaker. Both horses come here in great form and I like the look of Keenes Day who will be ridden by Joe Fanning.
The grey ran better than his finishing position suggested at Royal Ascot last week, and a big run is expected, with a combination of not getting home over the 2mi 4f trip and his first race since April seeing him coming home in 13th place.
A drop back to two miles at Gosforth Park tomorrow could just do the trick in the richest staying handicap in Europe, due off at 3.10pm.
