AN equestrian cross-country course on the edge of Darlington is reopening after two years.
The first event at Langdale Cross Country Course, between the villages of Melsonby and Aldbrough St John, will be an open schooling day on June 28.
The course was once a popular venue among the equestrian community of south Durham and North Yorkshire, and is now under the management of Carole Thompson of Brookleigh Riding Centre at Forcett.
Access to and from the course which had proved difficult due to the narrow access road has now been re-thought and a one-way system will be introduced to avoid these problems at future events.
Bill Watts has been employed to improve the take-off and landing areas around the existing fences and also to improve the areas between the fences, especially in the wooded parts.
It is hoped that the venue will prove as popular as it used to be and that soon new fences will be introduced to make the course even more interesting and varied.
After the open day, it will be available for hire. Entry for the open day, which starts at 10.30am, is £15 per horse, and £2 for the clear round show jumping competition.
Another one day event is planned for July 12. For further information, ring 01325-718286 or 01325-708329.
