ALPHA Delphini could step up to Group Three company for his next race following his Listed success in the Beverley Bullet last Saturday under Connor Beasley.

Trainer Bryan Smart might consider the Dubai International Airport World Trophy at Newbury on September 17 for the progressive sprinter, who completed a hat-trick with a narrow verdict over Willytheconqueror on the Westwood.

"There's a Group Three at Newbury in three weeks' time. Whether that will come soon enough, I don't know," Smart said on Wednesday afternoon.

"He's been busy, but we've not galloped the brains out of him.

"We'll just have a look. We'll just sit back and enjoy this for a while.

"We'll reassess and let the horse tell us."

Beasley couldn't contain his excitement in the winners' enclosure, saying: "That's great, he's improving all the time and he has the makings of a top-class sprinter, all he needs is a slice of luck."

Smart and Beasley will not want August to end after Alicante Dawn gave them another noteworthy success in the Longines Irish Champions Weekend EBF Ripon Champion Two-Year-Olds Trophy on Monday afternoon.

Despite being drawn widest of all, Beasley bounced his mount out and grabbed the rail, showing plenty of early speed. He never saw another rival, with favourite Kodiline finding disappointingly little, and the 7-2 chance beat Private Matter by two and a quarter lengths.

"I've just been informed that I'm the first trainer to win this and the Wilfrid in 27 years," said Smart.

"What with Alpha Delphini winning the Bullet on Saturday, we've had a great month.

"This lad hasn't been a bad buy for £5,000 has he? If he never wins again he doesn't owe us anything.

"We'll go for the Mill Reef now, he's earned a crack at that. We were testing the water today and he's passed with flying colours. I couldn't believe how easy he found it all. Connor said he gave him two cracks just to make him concentrate as he was dossing a bit."

The Betfred Sprint is the highlight in the racing calendar this weekend and Franny Norton will be looking forward to it as he's been booked to ride Stewards Cup winner Dancing Star.

The Liverpool-born jockey has been booked by trainer Andrew Balding and owner Jeff Smith for the progressive filly, who was supplemented for the six-furlong Group One at Monday's confirmation stage.

The ride came up for grabs after her regular partner, David Probert, suffered a broken wrist in a fall at Chester.

"It's fantastic. Once a horse is on the boil they are ready to run a massive race," Norton said at Carlisle on Wednesday evening.

"She deserves to take her place.

"It's nice to get a ride in the race, but to get this one is an added bonus."

Norton, 46, is having a tremendous season, with more than 70 winners already this year, including victory in the Group Three Prestige Stakes on the Mark Johnston-trained Kilmah last weekend.

Balding is delighted to have secured the services of Norton, who has 25 years' experience in the saddle and knows Haydock like the back of his hand.

"We just had to wait for confirmation whether Mark Johnston wanted him. He's at Haydock, so he's able to ride," said the Kingsclere handler.

"He knows Haydock well and he's ridden good winners both for me and owner Jeff Smith in the past and he's riding better than he's ever ridden.

"The filly is in good form."

The other three-year-old in the line-up is the Karl Burke-trained Quiet Reflection, already a winner in Group One company this year at Royal Ascot, and a mouth-watering race is in store.
