THE under 18 Junior European Eventing Championships are to be held at Bishop Burton College near Beverley in Yorkshire from August 14-17.

The dressage phase will take place on both Thursday and Friday with Cross Country on Saturday before the final Show Jumping phase on Sunday.

The competition is held in the UK every six years or so and this will be the first time it has been held at Bishop Burton. There will be 22 nations taking part and competition promises to be fierce as Great Britain try to win team gold on home ground after they only managed a disappointing seventh place in last year’s competition in France.

After the success of the Tour de France in Yorkshire the organisers hope that there will be good crowds for this exciting event where the best junior riders in Europe compete over what is expected to be a very challenging cross country course.

Storm Straker from Caldwell, Richmond is the youngest member of the squad that will be representing Great Britain and is the only rider from this region. She will be riding Well Designed , a 15.2HH bay gelding by Julio Mariner, which was bought for her brother Sam but trained and competed by her sister Jacquetta before Storm took the ride in 2013. She never expected to be chosen for the squad this year but has impressed the selectors with consistently good performances with double clears in each of the trials leading up to selection.

Storm comes from a first class eventing pedigree with her late grandmother, Elaine Straker, being one of the most respected trainers and producers of horses in the country.

She also has family heritage in equestrian through her aunt and father.
