DERBYSHIRE captain Billy Godleman returned to form after Durham’s bowlers hit back on the first afternoon of the Division Two County Championship match at Derby.
Godleman passed his previous highest score this season of 17 and at tea was unbeaten on 59 out of an unbroken third wicket stand of 100 with Wayne Madsen which carried Derbyshire to 226 for 3 at the interval.
It was another fruitless session for England fast bowler Mark Wood who failed to take a wicket ahead of the first Test against Pakistan in a fortnight’s time.
Instead it was James Weighell with two wickets and former Derbyshire seamer Nathan Rimmington who reduced the home side to 126 for 3 before Madsen with an unbeaten 44 and Godleman regained the initiative.
