DURHAM took the four remaining Hampshire wickets for 41 runs, only to lose Keaton Jennings for one as they replied to 411.

Scott Borthwick also departed for 15, still 28 short of his 1,000 championship runs, as Durham reached lunch on 44 for two.

Jennings offered no stroke to Gareth Berg's second ball and was adjudged lbw, while Borthwick tried to cut Brad Wheal's first ball and edged behind.

It wasn't the first time Borthwick had thrown his bat at something short and wide, as though desperate to cash in on any offerings in tricky conditions.

Mark Stoneman survived a few scares in reaching 28 at lunch, with Graham Clark yet to get off the mark.

After 11 overs Hampshire turned to the left-arm spin of Liam Dawson, who was first to go this morning for 62.

Resuming on 47 against Borthwick and Graham Onions, he did well to reach a ball from the leg-spinner to become the fifth batsman to pass 50.

He fell lbw to a ball from Onions which kept slightly low, but with only three needed for maximum batting points Lewis McManus top-edged a sweep over the slips for four.

Berg edged a catch off Onions, who also knocked back Mason Crane's off stump in a spell of three for 16. McManus was last out when he swept Borthwick to deep square leg.
